Dont know the gender, 30wks preg. I really like the idea of a name beginning with a C or K sound, as I like the double C sound with the surname of 'Cole'.

This is our shortlist so far...

Boys

-Kasper (an anagram of my surname - thought it might be a nice way to pass down my family name)
-Austin
-Felix
-Ambrose
-Isaac
-Gabriel
-Phoenix
-Riley

Girls

-Marlena (Marlie for short)
-Cassidy
-Bryony
-Brittany
-Chloe (like the name but not how common it is...)
-India

Would love to know your opinions, thank you!!

mamaz0n · 25/04/2011 16:05

India and Austin

livinlavidaloca · 25/04/2011 17:06

-Kasper -- lovely but I prefer Kaspar spelling
-Austin -- nice - quite 'americanised'
-Felix -- lovely
-Ambrose -- no< reminds me of custard and rice pudding....
-Isaac -- gorgeous
-Gabriel -- no< reminds me of the angel - too feminine imo and along the lines of Julian
-Phoenix -- LOVE IT - absolutely gorgeous name
-Riley -- no no no - waaaay too chavvy

Girls

-Marlena (Marlie for short) -- cute, very cute!
-Cassidy -- definitely no - again, far too chavvy
-Bryony -- no - have never met a nice one
-Brittany -- no - it'll always remind people of Britney spears
-Chloe -- far too common
-India -- nice

Two best names from each list imo are Phoenix/Felix and Marlie/India

Chocolocolate · 25/04/2011 17:13

I normally would dislike the spelling Kasper, but with it being an anagram of your surname, I think it's lovely.

I like Marlena the best from your girls list.

suspiria · 25/04/2011 18:04

My favourites are Kasper, Felix, Isaac, Gabriel, Marlena, India and Bryony

MayBankHoliday · 27/04/2011 00:42

Kasper - not keen on the K spelling although I like Caspar (defeats the purpose of the anagram though!)
Austin - a surname
Felix - great name, like this
Ambrose - pretentious, Ambrosia rice pudding
Isaac - lovely classic name
Gabriel - nice, classic
Phoenix - too "way out" for me
Riley - too surnamey and "life of Riley" is offputting

Marlena (Marlie for short) - like, pretty
Cassidy - surname (and a celeb surname), dislike
Bryony - OK but sounds masculine as so similar to Brian
Brittany - place name, not keen
Chloe - lovely
India - dislike, a place name and sounds like you're making an effort to sound "well travelled"

HappyWifeandMum · 27/04/2011 04:32

Isaac is too challenging to pronounce next to Cole. Of your lis, I like Gabriel or Felix, and Marlena. Very nice!

caz05 · 27/04/2011 07:45

Boys

-Kasper - like it but prefer spelt Casper
-Austin - No
-Felix - Yes I like this and it was on my list till people kept talking about the cat food
-Ambrose - No (rice pudding)
-Isaac - LOVE it (I also have an Isaac)
-Gabriel - No
-Phoenix - No
-Riley - Like

Girls

-Marlena (Marlie for short) - Dont like Marlena but like Marlie)
-Cassidy - No
-Bryony - No but old person
-Brittany - No
-Chloe (like the name but not how common it is...) - Yes
-India - No

oohlaalaa · 27/04/2011 08:48

Kasper - its a misspelt ghost
Austin - no, i think powers
Felix - a cat
Ambrose - ambrosia devon custard
Isaac - okay, although I immediately think of Newton
Gabriel - an ark angel
Phoenix - a city in arizona
Riley - an irish surname

Isaac is the only name I like.

Girls

Marlena - just dont like, it is too close to Marlene
Cassidy - sorry, its a rapper's name, and sounds made up, surnamish (I think of Eva Cassidy and David Cassidy)
Bryony - I like this name.
Brittany - I immediately think of Brittany Ferries.
Chloe - a nice name
India - I like this too

My favourite is Bryony

randomimposter · 27/04/2011 09:15

Isaac or Gabriel
Cassidy or India

tammytoby · 27/04/2011 11:33

This is a Kasper: www.freiburger-puppenbuehne.de/media/download/kasper.jpg

But I do like Marlena and Ambrose.

SilkStalkings · 27/04/2011 12:14

Have you thought about Cecille for a girl? Then her nickname could be the same as her initials - Cece/CC.

SilkStalkings · 27/04/2011 12:14

Also Cléa as opposed to Chloe?

whizzyrocket · 27/04/2011 16:00

As a teacher, I can tell you that every Riley, Cassidy, Bryony, and Brittany I've ever taught has been hideously naughty. Somehow bad behaviour does seem to follow some names.

My choices from your list would be Felix or India. Beautiful.

rachel234 · 27/04/2011 17:06

"As a teacher, I can tell you that every Riley, Cassidy, Bryony, and Brittany I've ever taught has been hideously naughty. Somehow bad behaviour does seem to follow some names."

It is probably down to the parenting approach of the parents who like such names!

SilkStalkings · 27/04/2011 19:01

Or perhaps down to the teachers' prejudging their parenting approach based on their names and the kids reacting understandably.

Just playing devil's advocateGrin.

millskii · 01/05/2011 00:09

Thank you everyone for your input. It has given me a really good idea of how some of our favourite names might be recieved by others!
I wouldn't necessarily agree that a name automatically makes a child naughty, though Hmm

-Kasper -Lovely name but prefer Caspar -but defeats object of anagram!
-Austin - Very American sounding.
-Felix - Too feline for me.
-Ambrose - Nice.
-Isaac - Nice, but becoming very popular.
-Gabriel - Lovely.
-Phoenix - Like it, but too much of a 'hippie/celebrity' vibe I feel.
-Riley - Again very American 'surnamey' sounding

Girls

-Marlena (Marlie for short) - Love Marlena, not Marlie -"...and me" book
-Cassidy - Noooo, 'surnamey' and 'chavvy'.
-Bryony - Nice.
-Brittany - Absolutely not, very common with the chav set!
-Chloe - Lovely nameSmile
-India - Nice, but quite common in parts.

CheshireDing · 01/05/2011 08:56

I love Casper Cole or Felix Cole, not crazy about the spelling of Kasper.

I also love what silk suggest Cecille Cole, although I know this is not in your list.

Sorry bit harsh and I don't know if you are in the UK but I think the girls names sound chavy or there will be a lot of them in class, like Chloe's, that's not at all unusual I don't think.

Marlena makes me think of Only Fools And Horses :(

mumofeach · 01/05/2011 09:42

I think Bryony and India are gorgeous.
I also love India but DH as vetoed it :(
