Bethan

Already started a thread to chose between Katherine, Isla, Amy and Beth. Most people said they only liked Beth if it were short for Elizabeth. I am not keen on Elizabeth at all. Don't like the sound of it, seems too formal and I don't like the other nick name possibilities such as Lizzie, Betty etc. I love Bethan. What does everyone think?

I have now ruled out Amy and Katherine so our short list is:

Isla (which a few people said was common so may date) or
Beth/ Bethan.

Opinions please x

Absolutely love Bethan. Beautiful name. Good luck!

Merle · 25/04/2011 10:01

Bethan. I like it a lot.

Guildenstern · 25/04/2011 10:17

My sister's name is Bethan.

Everyone used to shorten it to Beth, which I like but which she hated.

She was fine once she moved to Wales and everyone called her 'Beth-Anne' in beautiful Welsh accents.

I love Bethan and is my fave name for a girl, i'd definately pick it if i wasn't having a boy

MelinaM · 25/04/2011 11:48

Not a fan of Bethan I'm afraid, I live in wales and the sound of Beth-annnn really irritates meGrin

I much prefer Beth on it's own, if you love it, go for itSmile ...yes I know I suggested Elizabeth but she's you child, and Beth's far prettier then Bethan!

There's also Bethlin and Bethia.

Love IslaSmile ..popularity puts me off, but if that doesn't bother you so what!

NorkilyChallenged · 25/04/2011 11:55

I just suggested Bethan on another Beth thread, that's what I would use if I wanted nn Beth and I think it's a lovely full name. I like it better than your other options personally.

I agree that Isla is too popular just now.

LittleWhiteWolf · 25/04/2011 15:29

Bethan is lovely as is Bethany. I knew a set of twins once called Carys and Bethan. Lovely names.

agora1 · 25/04/2011 20:00

Love it, love it, love it!

millskii · 25/04/2011 20:13

I like Bethany best, but Bethan is nice too :)

MrsSnow · 25/04/2011 21:41

I knew a Bethan whose parents were Welsh, however it was pronounced more Beth-un rather than Beth-anne.

Greenfairybump · 26/04/2011 10:46

My name's Bethan and I am hardly ever called it so if you like it I would suggest calling her Bethan from the beginning because I struggle with associating myself with it now...
I grew up as Bethy, then I was 'B' at university and now I'm Beth at work...it's very confusing when people ask my name...!!
Good luck!

MayBankHoliday · 26/04/2011 23:58

Bethan/Beth.

Isla is overly popular at the moment.

oohlaalaa · 27/04/2011 09:05

I think Beth can be used on its own. I vote just Beth

Hedwig3 · 27/04/2011 13:28

Another vote for Beth just as it is.

whizzyrocket · 27/04/2011 15:52

I went to school with a Bethan, and thought it was lovely and unusual. I prefer Beth though. It is fine on its own. Rather classic. Think Little Women.. or rather don't! Sorry, I've just remembered that Beth was the one who died!

It's still a beautiful name though. Just don't go near Bethany with a barge-pole!

Kentwood · 27/04/2011 20:32

Thanks all. Urrrgh no I have to say that Bethany for me completely has no appeal. I appreciate it's practically the same name but it just has such a differen't sound and a really frilly girly feel to it which I am not liking.
