I really like the name Celia for our DD due in a couple of weeks but the thing is my Mum is gluten intolerant / gluten allergy so has Coeliacs (pn cee-lee-aks) disease - is it too weird or am I over thinking it??

Why don't you ask her?

kiwidreamer · 24/04/2011 19:05

It's not a case of offending her or anything so I don't think it's something I'd ask her about, just wondering if other people would make the connection and snigger??

You will know the moment when dd is born if Celia is right or wrong for her.

Nightstar · 24/04/2011 19:09

Do you know, I always think of Celiacs (I've written it how it pronouced, not actually spelt, as you know) when ever I hear the name Celia. It is Very similar to be honest. I think you are totally right to be considering that!

Lonnie · 24/04/2011 19:54

I think yu are overthinking it but agree to ask your mum her opinion..

Its a beautiful name

GoHelpMeSod · 24/04/2011 19:57

Nope, have never thought of that when hearing the name Celia. To me you're overthinking it. Smile

Prinpo · 24/04/2011 20:06

They do sound similar but it's a very well-established name so I don't think it's an issue. We're considering Cecilia for DD3 so I'll watch this post with interest to see what people make of Celia.

BibiBelle · 24/04/2011 20:19

Cecelia is the mn of our DD2 and had I know DD3 was an option I'd have kept it Grin

It's never crossed my mind and in my line of work I come across a lot of Coeliacs

Both brilliant names Smile

squeak2392 · 26/04/2011 09:09

I don't think you're likely to consider Coeliacs when you hear Celia unless you have something to do with it.
Even someone who is reminded of Coeliacs isn't going to mind, cos it's a beautiful name. Celeriac reminds me of Coeliacs.

However, maybe not a good idea if your daughter turns out to have Coeliacs disease herself :p

kreecherlivesupstairs · 26/04/2011 09:12

I think you know you are.
I have never associated Celia with Coeliacs, I have thought of haemorhhoids when I heard the name Emma and melaena with Melanie.

I wouldn't chose it in your situation, no. Then there's the (as Bluddy says) ceil i ya/seal ya jokes. On top of that - it's a old name to me, very dated - so I wouldn't use it anyway.

MayBankHoliday · 27/04/2011 00:31

Personally I'm not keen on the name, but I've never thought "coeliac".
