What do you think of the name Kit for a boy?
it is on our list of favourite boys names along with:

Max (my partners fav)
Dexter (my fav)

I don't think it sounds like a proper name.

The only name I can think to shorten to Kit is Christopher and I don't like this option (to normal/old fashioned for me!!!).

We already have an Isaac (which is still fairly unusual) so wanted something similar.

I love it but give him the full name (Christopher I think) even if EVERYONE calls them Kit from the day dot.

The Right Honorable Christopher Caz is better than The Right Honorable Kit Caz (actually that sounds like Kit Kat....hope your surname isn't cat related Grin)

Oh and I know a lovely Max and a lovely Dexter, Dexter does remind me of the TV show (about a serial killer if you don't know it) though.

Hah - I have an Isaac (we obviously have similar taste - though it is not at all an unusual name here).

I was trying to think of something besides Christopher myself. I suspect Christopher would not actually be common at the moment.

Luckily the surname is not cat related so will be fine :). The only other thing I am not sure on with Kit is it makes me think of Knightrider (as the car was called Kit) but you would have to be of a certain age to associate it with that I guess.

I have never watched Dexter but have heard of it. I actually got the Dexter idea from Home and Away and they shorten it to Dex (which I love). The only problem with Dexter is my partner is not too keen.

Kit is great as a nn. What about Christo rather than Christopher? I know a lovely Christo.
Dexter reminds me of "standing on the wall like you was poindexter" so I would feel it was a nerdy label, even a taunt rather than a name.

Think Kester would be shortened to Kes.

Not keen on Christian either.

Isaac is still fairly unusual in our area. In fact I have only ever heard of 1 other.

I think of Nightrider too, but that's not such a bad thing in my book. Quite a cool association really!

Kester is a form of Christopher (Scottish perhaps) so you could shorten it to Kit.

I like Kit and Max - Kit does make me think of Knight Rider though. Dexter too associated with serial killers due to TV. Oh dear - it seems my life is dictated by telly...

Every playgroup I went to was overrun with Isaacs and I hear it everywhere. There was a mother yelling for hers to follow her in the shops the other day. We could hear her constantly, even when we couldn't see her and my poor Isaac kept yelling back 'I can't come with you - I have to stay with my mum'. The only time it has bugged me is when a playgroup leader asked me how to spell it, saying 'there are so many ways to spell Isaac'. 'But only one is right', I replied, and she laughed as if I was making a great joke.

I went to school with a Kit. At the time I did not know Kit was short for Christopher, and assumed Kit was his fullname. It may well have been his name, as I dont recall ever seeing Christopher written down or referred to anywhere.

I say go for it.

I think its lovely. If your family name is Carr or Kerr it could sound like you built him in your garage from parts but apart from that I love it :)

I have a Dexter Miles aged 5 [so before the series!] and he is as cool as his name!!!

I like Kit but not Christopher (and I would have to have the long name on the birth cert).

Although this won't help you, I recently read a book where the heroine was called Kit (short for Catherine). I liked that too.

I am old enough to think of Dex Dexter when you mention Dex. But I think it's my favourite out of your 3. Max is a dogs name imo.
