Dh has suggested this, but I'm not sure of the correct pronunciation and we don't agree.
Can you help?

Opinions welcome too.

rhymes with wine-ah. DH has an aunt with this name, before I met her I would have pronounced it Deena. I think either could be deemed as correct.

I think this singer was a Deena. If that helps at all!

ohmyfucksy · 20/04/2011 00:42

Die-ner

Like the cat in ALice in Wonderland

HowsTheSerenity · 20/04/2011 03:32

Die-Nah

JollySergeantJackrum · 20/04/2011 03:35

Dine-ah

CheerfulYank · 20/04/2011 03:39

Dine-uh

I work with a woman who is Dina, pr. Dee-Nah though

frakyouveryverymuch · 20/04/2011 05:41

I would say Dinah as Die-na

Dina as Dee-na

mypersonalfavourite · 20/04/2011 07:35

I know a Dinah who is deenah. I thought it was diena before I met her thought.

Bratfink · 20/04/2011 07:38

The biblical way is deenah, I prefer it this way

meditrina · 20/04/2011 07:53

Dee-nah.

I would pronounce it Dine-ah. Prefer Deena though!

tryingtoleave · 21/04/2011 08:58

I have only ever heard Deena, and I have come across a few (but am in australia).

going · 21/04/2011 09:01

I would pronounce it like Diner.

Dina is dee-na.

Tuggy · 21/04/2011 10:07

I would say it to rhyme with miner.

Diner... as in an American style Diner.

"die-ner"

Laquitar · 21/04/2011 10:11

My dh's niece is Deena too. From Constandina.

lljkk · 21/04/2011 10:15

Die-nah. My great-grandmother :).

Cattleprod · 21/04/2011 10:15

I've only met one, and she pronounced it Dee-nah.

She had a brother called Dean, so her parents must have really liked the name!!

lljkk · 21/04/2011 10:18

No "er" sound, that's Okie (lljkk sniffs American nose clear of Redneck taint).

I have a relative who married Dennis, siblings = Devon (female), Denise, Davina and David (I think). Too much of a good thing, eh?!

Whatevs · 21/04/2011 10:21

Diner.

Dinah Washington.

Lovely name.

hocuspontas · 21/04/2011 10:25

Deena. Lovely name - didn't realise it could be pronounced the other way. Don't like Dine-ah much.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/04/2011 19:00

Dine-ah. Never heard it pronounced the other way. That's Deena/Deana surely.
