My name is Jill and one of my favourite names for a boy has always been Jack - see my problem!!!! Could I get away with it?

I have a friend named Wendy who married a Peter and a friend named Janet whose late husband was John. If you decide to do it, best keep a sense of humour as you may get a fair bit of ribbing!

No.
Sorry.

hocuspontas · 18/04/2011 21:32

How often will you say 'Jack and Jill'? Not often I would've thought.

ValiumBandwitch · 18/04/2011 21:34

no i wouldn't.

thebestisyettocome · 18/04/2011 21:34

The OP may not say it much but I bet that everybody who makes the connection would Smile

Jill72 · 18/04/2011 21:38

It's a frustration - really struggling to find a name that clicks!! I did once go out with a Jack at Uni many moons ago - needless to say it didn't last long! lol! Arrgh!!! REALLY like Jack....

Jack is a nice name but one problem is that it's very popular. You may find that your 'Jack' would be one of many when it's time for him to start school.

What other names did you have?

smother · 18/04/2011 21:42

Jake?

hocuspontas · 18/04/2011 21:43

Seriously, I can't think of any instance where 'child's name and mother's name' is used in that order. And even if it was, a momentary snigger maybe, and then acceptance. Go for it.

cosytoesandfingers · 18/04/2011 21:43

Jago? Zac?

Jill72 · 18/04/2011 21:45

Confession - my dog is called JAKE!!

I was going to say I really don't think it would matter, as I think people would say Jill and Jack (as opposed to Jack and Jill), then I realised I know a Jill and Jack (mother and son) and have NEVER made that connection, nor as anybody else that I am aware of!

hocuspontas · 18/04/2011 21:46

If your dp was Bill and you called your dcs Will and Phil I might think you was a bit odd but Jack's fine.

Jill72 · 18/04/2011 21:51

The other problem is that being a teacher there are whole lists of names that are forever OFF my list - yes - some names send shivers down my spine at the mere mention!!!! lol!!

How about Luke, Max, George, John, Harry?

Jill72 · 19/04/2011 12:21

I could always change MY name !! lol!

It would be more of a problem if Jack and Jill were siblings.
I don't have a problem with Jack, son of Jill. That's like saying John can't name his son Jack, or vice versa. They're closely related, but they're not the same name and they're never going to get mixed up because of the connection.
