DH likes these for a girl.......I am not entirely convinced

Cody is nice for either boy or girl and I do like scout too.
Reminds me of To Kill a Mockingbird.

Thing is with baby names, it's always a good idea to imagine calling someone that name at all ages.

I just can't imagine an old lady being called scout but I do love the name.

Both good points

Love TKAMB so Scout

Collision · 18/04/2011 14:16

Neither

OK as middle names if you have to but will date very easily. I cannot imagine being called either of these names.

Do a test......

'all rise for Judge Scout Foster..........' Really not a name that will be taken seriously.

'this is your Cody Maynard, live at 10, in the Gulf.' Works but is a bit naff.

Could you give the baby a more formal name, then Scout as your nn? My DN is always called Mouse by her parents which I think is lovely.

swampster · 18/04/2011 14:19

To Kill a Mockingbird aside, they are both fabulous redneck names.

juneau · 18/04/2011 14:20

Neither - sorry!

Maud2011 · 18/04/2011 14:26

Sorry but don't like either name at all - however much I like TKAMB!

Cody is very American boy sounding, makes me think of codeine too. Scout just doesn't look or sound attractive. It has a short round tubby ring to it. If I was christened Scout, I'd probably change my name to something ludicrously feminine like Floradorabella when I got older - to compensate and probably to pee off my parents as well Grin.

Neither name has scope for diminutives either. I know some people don't like them but they do provide wriggle room when a child doesn't like his/her full name.

vintageteacups · 18/04/2011 14:27

That's a good idea Frisky - I know someone who's dd has a very formal name but as a nn, they call her Bubble.

We've always called our dd 'Rabbit' and it's nothing to do with her 1st or middle name.

FranSanDisco · 18/04/2011 14:29

Scout was the character's nn in TKAMB though it wasn't her real name.

vintageteacups · 18/04/2011 14:43

What was her real name then?

The boy was Jem. I don't remember that Scout had another name?

vintageteacups · 18/04/2011 14:44

You're right - it was Jean Louise 'Scout' Finch. Can't believe I didn't remember that.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 18/04/2011 14:49

I like them both. However Cody does remind me a lot of 80s kids movies. Loads of Cody child stars in the USA. But I think they were all boys.

You dont sound like you like them much so I wouldnt use them If I were you.

Talking of TKAMB I thought I wasnt having anymore kids so I used up Atticus on my dog. Then had another boy! dammit.

ShatnersBassoon · 18/04/2011 14:49

No.

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 18/04/2011 14:55

Cody of the two - but neither really, especially not for a girl.

I hope you find something you both like though, it's really hard!

SolarPanel · 18/04/2011 15:18

I don't like either, but of the two would pick Cody.

TeacupTempest · 18/04/2011 15:34

ha! Floradorabella

Yep you are all saying what I have been thinking. Will have words with DH!

Mum2Pea · 18/04/2011 15:37

sorry, another one who's not keen on either :-(

CarefulWithThatAxeEugene · 18/04/2011 16:39

It's horrid.

Jean Louise is rather nice, though.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 18/04/2011 16:48

Neither, hideous.

sparkle12mar08 · 18/04/2011 19:15

Neither, both are awful on grown adults.

Maud2011 · 18/04/2011 19:53

TeacupTempest get your DH to look at this thread :)

What names do you have in mind?

MelinaM · 18/04/2011 20:38

Cody is a n absolutely horrendous name, and immediately I think of Codeine tablets and Cody Willis- Neighbours! ..sorry!

Scout is nice, but as the other ladies have said go for a 'proper name' and use Scout as a nnSmile Scout is also the name of one of Demi Moore and Bruce Wilis' daughters!
