Which spelling is correct, or most commonly used. I like xander and partner prefers zander.

Zander is a fish, if you're OK with that.

thomasbodley · 17/04/2011 12:17

It's Xander. It's a diminutive of Alexander.

A diminutive to be avoided unless you are indubitably posh.

Georgimama · 17/04/2011 12:19

It sounds a bit try hard as an actual first name (not that you asked for opinions, but you will always get them in baby names). I would go for Alexander and then just call him Xander as a nickname if you want to.

(The only person I know called Alexander with Xander as a nickname is indubitably posh, it has to be said. We are his family's token not rich friends.)

haha that is exactly what I thought - Thomasbodley! I even googled the name Zander and it was a fish that had came up.

Xander, as it is short for Alexander.

ihatecbeebies · 17/04/2011 12:26

Thanks everybody, it wasn't for a child thought, it was for our cat and it turned into a bit of a debate between the two of us (all of the name sites we looked on said both Zander and Xander) but I thought the best place to get opinions would have been in here!

Xander is the best of the two options.

Georgimama · 17/04/2011 12:33

Oh, you can't go too posh for a cat.

SolarPanel · 17/04/2011 13:42

Xander, short for Alexander as others have said.

CarefulWithThatAxeEugene · 17/04/2011 15:52

Oh, Zander definitely then - fish for a cat, very apt! Smile

LetThereBeRock · 17/04/2011 16:14

Definitely Xander.Zander is a fish.

CarefulWithThatAxeEugene · 17/04/2011 16:21

Do keep up at the back there! Grin

ihatecbeebies · 17/04/2011 18:35

Xander I love, Zander not so much. Both correct spelling though.

My daughter's Australian friend has a Xander. Haven't come across it here yet.
