What do you do when your enemy steals you baby name?

Here's the situ:
In work, all the people on my floor are friendly and I get along well with all of them, but there's one lady (let's call her Kate) who is cruel, mean, ignorant, hated and irritating and no-one gets along with her at all. She was already pregnant when I found out I was, and all the people on my floor were helping me decide in names, and my baby was always the topic of conversation. DH and I found the name combo which we both loved after months of deliberation - Poppy Eliza May. Two weeks after I told the rest of the office the name, Kate left for her maternity leave and came back two months later (2 weeks ago) to show us the baby. She had named it Poppy Eliza May. None of the office dared confront her about how she had stolen my name, as she was bound to report us for 'bullying' (which she has done before and ended up getting one of my colleagues sacked)
Now I face a dilemma - do I just call DD(who is due next week) Poppy Eliza May or shall I think up a new name? I wouldn't so much mind the latter apart from it took agesto find a name DH and I agreed on as we are both so fussy and I really don't think we will be able to find a name we love as much as Poppy Eliza May.
Please help!

I'm sure the OP has left because there are so many nasty character-assassinations on this thread. If its your opinion that she's being unreasonable why isn't it possible to tell her without bashing her to death?

I'm out.

AKissIsNotAContract · 18/04/2011 04:13

The name was already used in the Beverly Hillbillies, so you both stole it.

Bucharest · 18/04/2011 06:37

There are a lot of nasty posts on this thread Molly, you're absolutely right.
The most horrible being from the OP herself.

geordieminx · 18/04/2011 06:45

I can't see the OP returning..

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 18/04/2011 07:22

Write "you sux" on her pencilcase?

Newjobthankgod · 18/04/2011 08:33

Christ am I glad that I don't work with OP.

Kaekae Hmm

Ormirian · 18/04/2011 16:10

I don't think you sound very nice TBH

BigChiefOrganiser · 18/04/2011 16:16

Call your baby, "Kate", that'll show her

Hmm
Lonnie · 18/04/2011 20:19

Possible suggestion...

your baby is due nex week. her was born at least 10 weeks ago and I assume she went on maternity leave about 2-3 weeks prior to that..

Is it possible she didnt know you had chosen that particular name combination and came up with it herself? As already said all 3 are rather popular names at the moment not that hard to imagine she had come up with them Nor would Evie Jessica Grace be they are names used a fair bit

Personally I would change thename as you clearly have bad connections to it..

Oh dear, you really should have applied for the copyright now shouldn't you?!!! Grin

Definitely choose a new name, 'the name' is pretty unimaginative and extremely popular anyway, so I'd say this is an ideal opportunity to choose something fresh and uncommon.

Jemma1111 · 18/04/2011 23:41

'kate' surely must be winding you up OP, I presume that as you come across the way you do, spoilt etc, then she would hardly want to name her DD the same name she expects you to give your Dd.

Btw, isn't it more important to focus on having a healthy, happy baby than being pissed off because you believe someone has 'stolen' your chosen names?

Have a word with yourself

expatinscotland · 18/04/2011 23:46

What a totally dumb ass name. I wouldn't even inflict that on a hamster. Or a guinea pig. Or a goldfish. Or a pet amoeba.

ruffletheanimal · 18/04/2011 23:51

really really juvenile. id grow up if i were you.

squeak2392 · 26/04/2011 20:10

:O Oh my gosh, I can't believe she did that!! I'd be in a strop for months if someone did that to me.
On the other hand, it's only a name, no matter how difficult it was to choose. Just think of it as a compliment to your naming abilities :) I actually hate the name Poppy as it happens, but that is a VERY good combo.

If it was just Poppy Eliza I'd say go for it, but I think the May makes it wrong. I think everyone should have as individual a name as is acceptable (which is why Poppy May, Isabelle Rose, etc annoy me so much). You can keep Poppy and just adjust the other names. Poppy Elizabeth May is just as nice. Poppy Alicia May, Poppy Elisa May. Or just Poppy May.
Names I think are similar to Poppy (in image): Ruby, Lila, Isla, Lola.
Poppy Samantha?

squeak2392 · 26/04/2011 20:16

Also, she sounds like the type of woman who would say YOU stole HER name if you went ahead with it, which could cause trouble.
Just think about how much longer you're likely to be around each other. If it's a long time, change it; if you're likely to be apart 6 months after your daughter's born, you can call her Poppy Eliza May.

ItsGrimUpNorth · 26/04/2011 22:51

Poppy is too close to Ploppy. Not good.

CarefulWithThatAxeEugene · 26/04/2011 23:08

It was a wind-up, folks.
