I would probably assume it was ee-fee, but once told otherwise it would be fine. You'd only have to tell people once.

Effie is short for Euphemia (dunno if that's just a Scottish thing) and it's pronounced the same as yours.

It's lovely, actually. Smile

i knew a greek girl named effie too, not sure what it was short for

One of my lo's is Ivie (Edo name - Nigerian) The I is pronounced E, so it's Ee-ve-ay My other lo's also have Edo names, but are more complicated to explain how to pronouce! Even hers which is the simplest gets pronounced wrongly ALL the time unless you tell people first. To be honest though I have a simple English name but because of the variations similar to it I always get called the wrong thing.
Just pick a name you like and you like the meaning of (people will ALWAYS ask you to explain what it means) and the people in your family will learn it and just expect that most other people will need telling a few times before they get it.
I think Efie is fairly easy.

I think it's really pretty and easy to pronounce. Good luck and big congrats x

Efie is great.

I would pronounce Efie how you would.

I think it is a sweet name :)
What does it mean?

iskra · 16/04/2011 20:21

Efie is nice. I think I would pronounce it the same as you the first time I saw it so I don't think it's too hard at all.

mamaesi, think it might have been short for Efrosina? I know a Greek girl called that.

Maternelle · 16/04/2011 21:07
