Short, polysyllabic names

Can you help my cousin?

Her surname is a short (4 letter) thuddy monosyllable. She wants to balance this with a first name which is polysyllabic (3, ideally 4 or more syllables) but with as few letters as possible (so they don't look too ridiculous next to each other). She doesn't want to use the initials F or S.

Any ideas I could offer her?

Btw, she doesn't know if it's a boy or a girl, so suggestions for both sexes welcome.

I'm seeing her at the weekend, so will be able to try them out on her then. I'd guess she'll be traditional, but in an educated mildly bohemian way IYSWIM.

Of the suggestions so far I really like Leonie (she's a Georgette Heyer fan), Amelia, Tabitha, Thalia, Annabel (there's an Isabel elsewhere close in the family), Cecily and perhaps Peony (Penelope is nice, but perhaps top long). For boys, Cassius, Maximus and Tobias look good so far.

(I thought of Vercingetorix, but it's far too long!)

southofthethames · 15/04/2011 01:38

Girl: Rowena, Isabel, Emily/Amelia, Elena/Helena, Marina.
Boy: Gabriel, Jonathan, Timothy, Gideon, Adrian.
Might help to choose a name that's compatible with the family's ethnic or religious background too, which we don't know here, but hopefully the pool of suggestions will help.

Sorry, just saw your post about Isabel already being taken - ok, another vote for Naomi then.
