Is there going to be a William explosion?

I know William is quite a common name but do you think there is going to be a boom in the name because of 'the' wedding?
DS is due in June and DH has wanted this name for the past 10 years since we first started planning...so if I want to negotiate another one I need to start now!

William is a nice name.

Its popular ... not 'common'

No I doubt it - it's always been quite popular though anyway. I really like it, we nearly had one but changed it to Wilbur as it suited him better. I think I actually prefer William! Smile

"going to be" - it's already happened! Every third boy where I live seems to be called William. Personally I find it a bit dull but it's not a bad name. I think if you really like a name you shouldn't give a damn what anyone thinks.

Another one? God, hope not.
Doubt it could get any more popular tbh.
Neither will there be a Katherine one. If Saint Diana couldn't cause a name boom, no-one can. Grin

There were 6 in ds1's nursery class and I know loads of baby Williams too. In fact there there were 3 Williams in my antenatal class and that was out of about 7 or 8 boys.

It's been a top 10 name for years, so I doubt an increase would be that noticeable. So if you like it, go for it!

pinkgirlythoughts · 14/04/2011 13:29

I'd be more worried about a Kate/ Katherine explosion, to be honest. William is already the #8 name in the country, so even if it does become more popular due to the wedding, it's not going to be that noticeable, IMO.

The explosive wording of this thread sounds as if someone's planning a Guy Fawkes moment!

MelinaM · 14/04/2011 13:37

I agree, Kate /Catherine and all it's derivatives are going to surge in popularity before the year is out!

Love Wilbur Ingrid Smile

I have a William. It is a timeless classic name. Because of this it will always be quite popular. Having said this my son is the only one in his class at school, and I don't know any others around his age. Alot more Oliver's and harry's where I live.

ValiumBandwitch · 14/04/2011 17:22

mmmm,. there already is i would say. I don'tthink William will become the number one name though.

i think whatever they call their children will make us wince to begin with, but that'll become really popular within about 7 year.s

jellybeansontoast · 14/04/2011 17:24

It's ridiculously popular anyway, especially when you consider all the Billys, Bills, Wills etc who are actually William. I find it very boring myself, purely because it's so overused probably.

ingrid Grin at Wilbur...love it as an alternative
