What do you think?

Max or Luke for a boy

Holly, Chloe or Juliet for a girl

smith just makes everything so boring!

I think the rather short one syllable sirname would repay a longer first name.

So Juliet Smith works best from your list for girls. Both Max Smith and Luke Smith are too jerky sounding, to my ear - you need something longer.

I shall ponder.

Think of Smith as a classic name!
You could always go for something really grand to off set it - Maxmillian rather than Max for example.

Hi, i agree with notanumber. Three or four syllables with Smith would be great. Alexander, Gregory, Sebastian, Dominic, Annabel, Juliet, Camilla etc

Based on your current choices, you might like these:

girls
Amelia Smith
Olivia Smith

boys
Jacob Smith
Cameron Smith

Juliet definitely.
Max Smith is nice but sounds like Matt Smith, he would always have to pronounce it really carefully which would make him sound very odd LOL.
We have a v common surname so avoided the Top 50 names on principle.

MelinaM · 12/04/2011 21:10

Juliet for meSmile Max is lovely, but I agree, I'd would choose a longer version of it to go with your surname.

Maximillian
Maximus
Maxston
Maxwell
Maxley
Maxim ..although it's the name of a popular lads magGrin

Anything goes with Smith!

That was my maiden name; my first name only has one syllable. Sounded fine.

notanumber · 12/04/2011 21:33

But you can only name him Maximillion if you're prepared to call him that all the time. Otherwise he's just Max Smith. So you might as well have just called him that in the first place.

SolarPanel · 12/04/2011 21:37

I like all the names in your first post. I think Max Smith is awkward because the x and s run together, so I'd go for Luke Smith. All the girls' names go fine with your surname, but I think Holly Smith sounds nicest.

I would go for a longer more unusal name Emmeline or Madeline.

MuffinMouse · 15/04/2011 19:53

I agree with pilates - Smith needs a longer, unusual name. Marcella? Aurelia? Dorian? OK maybe not everyone's cup of tea - I'd just avoid the top 50 names....
