Middle name for Sorcha?

DH and I have made a decision on the name Sorcha I have been researching this name a lot and as far as I understand the pronunciation is sor-i-ka and it mean bright, intelligent and possibly a connected to Sarah which is my husbands mother name.

We are a little concerned about the pronunciation and the fact she may have to correct people frequently but it is such a pretty name that we are going with it.

Another problem is finding a middle name, I like Faye but himself is not so keen. Our last name is Flynn any help would be appreciated!

It's the Irish for Sarah. pronounciation depends on what part of Ireland you live in - some places it's pronounced sore-sha, where I'm from it's pronounced sir-i-ka.

Sorcha - May is lovely as is Sorcha Rose.

I like the name Sorcha, but I think it's tricky to pronounce. My initial thought when I saw it was sor-sha. It is pretty though.

Thanks everyone for the help so far, I also agree when I first saw the name I thought it was Sor-sha and looking into it there is SO MANY ways of saying it that im confused too!

My husband has now suggested the middle name niamh but im not sure...is it to Irish? Also I think the meanings are very similar and not sure if it is the way to go. Sorcha means radiance and bright and Niamh means light

Niamh is Irish and does mean Light, I wanted to use this name as my name means the same but my DH's name rhymes with it so cant use it.

Sorcha Niamh sounds nice but they are the names of the Cusack sisters, but that might not put him/you off.

I don't care who pronounces it sore-sha, its plain wrong, the letters in it can't make that sound in the Irish language. Its like saying your name is Sarah, pronounced Sayonara. The letters don't make that sound.

I like Sorcha Niamh and Sorcha Faye. I guess that with the surname Flynn there is some Irish heritage in the family - brush up on it cos people will definitely ask about it when they meet baby Sorcha! Sorcha Flynn is so Irish it doesn't matter what middle name you give her.

I do think it's lovely but bear in mind that, if you're going to live in England, Sorcha is going to have a lifetime of "no, it's pronounced..." and "no, you spell it like this" - have a look at the Saoirse thread.

WinterOFOUrDiscountTents, we are trying to find the correct way of saying this name and we have agreed that it is pronounced Sor-i-cha as my husband says it is the opposite of dorcha (dor-i-cha). THere is many variations on how to say it but think the general consensus is this is right, any further information to confirm this is appreciated.

shaunwinonaandsue I also have a concern about the 'no it pronounced' or 'it is said' but we live at the bottom of the highlands and so hope that the gaelic name wouldnt be so much of an issue. I myself am called Katriona pronounced katrina and so have the same problem, we like the name so much that think this might be 'worth it'

Ah if you're in Highlands I reckon Irish name won't be so much of an issue, people used to Gaelic names so Irish not much of a leap. Is v pretty name, go for it!
