SouthGoingZax · 12/04/2011 15:02

Sorry, think it is horrid.
Probably not all that popular, so may not need to worry about the 10 others.

BeakerTheMuppetMuppet · 12/04/2011 15:05

i don't think Daniel is so popular right now...unlike 26yrs ago when i named DS1

no need to be sorry, SouthGoing...we can't all be right Wink

*joke btw

BarbieLovesKen · 12/04/2011 15:05

Absolutely gorgeous. Love it and love all nicknames for it. Think it is getting popular over here (Ireland), I think it was roughly 5 or 6 in last year's charts but, having said that I havent met/ heard of any actual little Daniels.

Good classic name. Its not going to date.

Bucharest · 12/04/2011 15:06

No he won't.
It's lovely. Timeless, classy, elegant.

petitdonkey · 12/04/2011 15:06

I think that it is really lovely and very underused. The youngest Daniel I know is 12 and I don't know of any at DS's school. Love all of the options too, Dan, Danny. Lovely name Smile

notanumber · 12/04/2011 15:11

It's a nice name.

Even if it is suddenly The Most Popular Name Ever, in a class of thirty, out of fifteen boys there won't be more than your DS and two others called Daniel. It's not that huge a deal.

I think people get too het up about the supposed pitfalls of popular names.

Better a lovely name that is popular than a unique name which is vile

minipie · 12/04/2011 15:13

Good name

Not that heavily used at the mo.

missmapp · 12/04/2011 15:30

one of mine is a daniel, we chose it because we liked all the shortened options, so far he hasnt met that many others.

bemybebe · 12/04/2011 15:32

great name

dangalf · 12/04/2011 17:00

Vested interest as it's my name but I love it - good for variations as well (only time I get called Daniel is when my mum is mad at me or by the MIL). Think it is less popular now then it was when i was born and even so in my schools there was 1 other daniel in my year at secondary but none in my year at primary.

SolarPanel · 12/04/2011 17:15

I like it.

LetThereBeRock · 12/04/2011 17:47

I love it. It's a gorgeous name.

LetThereBeRock · 12/04/2011 17:48

I hate Dan and Danny, but I'd still use the name.

Insomnia11 · 12/04/2011 17:55

I think it is quite popular (among my friends and acquaintances anyway) but not quite as much as Oliver and Samuel. It makes me think of the lovely Bat For Lashes song nowadays anyway.

"Daniel when I first saw you
I knew that you had a flame in your heart
And under our blue skies
Marble movie skies
I found a home in your eyes
We'll never be apart..."

flopsy1974 · 12/04/2011 18:34

Lovely, timeless, classic name. I know a few daniels of my age, but don't know any little Daniels.

BobbiDazzler · 12/04/2011 18:35

Love it. I don't know any baby Daniels and only one small boy with this name (am in London).

Ooopsadaisy · 12/04/2011 18:41

One of my fav names. Couldn't use it for DS as it's my step-brother's name.

He's 33 and I know of lots of Dan/Daniels in their 20s & 30s and also teens and younger. I can think of 3 in Year 10 and 2 in Year 7.

I don't think it's as popular as it was a few years ago.

Classic name.

I love it, sweet name with cool nn's.

pinkhebe · 12/04/2011 18:42

I like it. I know of 2 in year 3

peanutbutterkid · 12/04/2011 18:47

DS1 name, quite popular when he was born (1999) but not so many now (at all).
It's a bit boring, I suppose, but it suits him. He quite likes being called Danny. Calvin would have been good for DS1, too.

SnotandBothered · 12/04/2011 18:49

Agree with most posters. Timeless and classic but it has a warmth to it which I think is so important.

It has become less popular in the last decade I think (which is a good thing because you probably have a while before we go full circle and it comes back to being really popular again)

Go for it. .

virginiasmonalogue · 12/04/2011 18:49

gorgeous name

KaraStarbuckThrace · 12/04/2011 18:50

DS 3yo is Daniel, I honestly thought there would be loads about but surprisingly there aren't! There are 3 Sophies, 2 Harrisons, 2 Olivers, and 2 Olivias in his preschool room but he is the only Daniel.
Sometimes hear someone else call out to their own Daniel, but they always turn out to be much older boys so I guess it has fallen out of popularity.
I picked to it because I don't object to the shortened names, Dan or Danny. So far he is just Daniel.
My Daniel is a very sweet natured and gentle little boy (though he has his moments Grin)

Udderly · 12/04/2011 19:12

I love it, its my no 1 choice for a DS should one come along.
And I also love the Bat for Lashes song!!
