What do you think of the name 'Rogan' - for a girl(!)

I love the name Rogan and have only ever heard it used as a boys name - but i am in love with it as a girls name :) It's an Irish name - Middle name would be Lilly. (NOT Josh :P )

Would expect it to be a boys name, like Roger.

Yes its real - long before the curry - already paid tribute to it in my OP but knew people wouldn't be able to resist.

Sounds like Rogaine hair restorer. Why dont you have Lily as a first name then Rogan as a middle?

hey ChickensHaveNoEyebrows, would you pronounce Regan as 'ay' or 'ee'?
I liked the 'ay' sounding one - but thats what the little girl from the Exorcist was called and that kid really creeped me out - then i came across Rogan :)

Sorry Saffa. Just looked it up and Blush it means the same as my DSs Gaelic name Rohan. Huge apologies!

However, it has got a masculine feel to it. Is there are slightly softer equivalent?

mmm good point about the 'Rogaine' - don't think it sounds like 'bogey' ? and then you can rhyme most names with something not quite nice.

I know what you mean about the 'masculine feel' but i have always liked girls names like that - would have also like Rowan or Blake for a girls name. PS - Names like Alison were originally boys names!

I prefer 'Ree-gan' as the pronounciation. If DS2 had been a girl, it would have been his/her name Grin

Rogan is definately a boy's name though - I wouldnt name a girl this. I really like it but to me, (Irish, living in Ireland) its definately a surname.

It means red haired.

PS once heard of triplets being called Rogan, Regan and Reagan!!!!
