Rufus??

What do people think of this name? I love it, but my hubby has said 'no way-no how'.

I have two other boys named Maximillian (Max) & Theoden (Theo), and I thought Rufus (Roo) would complete the Latin-type names.

Hubby reckons Rufus is a really 'chavvy' name, but I always thought it was quite classy.

Opinions please. Does anyone have any other suitable suggestions to compliment my other boy's names, and to fit with a single syllable surname?

I wouldn't say Rufus is "chavvy" at all! I think it's a lovely classy name and goes perfectly with your other two.

and chaka khan???

usualsuspect · 06/04/2011 18:15

I like it

Mssoul · 06/04/2011 18:15

I like it for a cute little puppy Grin sorry, unhelpful.

Lanie77 · 06/04/2011 18:23

Lol - I had the 'dog name' remark, when I called my first born Max ....... but now there are loads of Max's around. Perhaps I'm just a trend-setter Hmm

Love Rufus, but think Marcus would match too.

I've you are thinking really Latin, I know a Caesar.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 06/04/2011 19:59

I love Rufus but DH vetoed. I almost got him to consider to Titus. What about Tobias?

4paws · 06/04/2011 20:01

i love Rufus, tho maybe it is best for a red head. And DH vetoed me anyway.

Lanie77 · 06/04/2011 20:27

I wonder why our menfolk don't like Rufus?? Us girls have obviously got much more taste ;0)

I don't think I could name the poor little fella Caesar. I knew a Titus (but fear he would be nicknamed 'tightarse'. Toby (Tobias) is out, as I went to school with a Toby, & he was a little bugger!

Other names I'm considering are:-
Loki
Luca
Gabriel

Perhaps hubby would allow Rufus if he is a ginger!
I've only got 3 weeks to decide a name, as I'm booked for a c-section on the 28th!! Arrrggghhh!!

I think you're right about the nn for Titus.

Benedict?

Lanie77 · 06/04/2011 20:30

Oh, and I can't have a Marcus, because I've already got a Max & I can't have two Ms (hubby is Andy, his brother is Al & their dad is Al - it caused all sorts of problems with their post!!)

Rufus is great.

If it's not popular with your dh then how about Rudyard a.k.a. Rudy?

mamma2boyz · 06/04/2011 20:31

I like Rufus, but my dh says he will be called doofus....fair point I guess.

How about Reuben?
Cassius
Atticus

mckenzie · 06/04/2011 20:32

Love Rufus.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 06/04/2011 20:34

Ooh - Cassius. Love it.

UndiscoveredApprentice · 06/04/2011 20:36

Romulus and Remus? LOL only other Latin names I can instantly think of.

Seriously ,what about Felix?

UndiscoveredApprentice · 06/04/2011 20:40

Oh, I know a Gaius, who gets Guy, would that help?

Or Augustus, getting Gus?

Lucius (Luke)

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 06/04/2011 20:49

Lucien?

Emelene · 06/04/2011 21:14

I don't like Rufus personally, I just have it in my head as a dog's name!
Maybe Lucas?

bananamom · 06/04/2011 21:19

I must admit to knowing a chavvy Rufus. It's VERY up-and-coming here in London. I used to like it a lot (I guess when it was more unusual) but this has faded.

Well, thanks very much for all your opinions & suggestions - they've all been really helpful.

I still love Roo (Rufus), but I really don't think H is going to go for it. I guess it'll be Luca or Gabriel, unless I get any epiphanies in the next 3 weeks.

Fabian? Probably doesn't fit the Classical criterion, sorry am not of that bent.

diddl · 07/04/2011 08:47

Rufus is fantastic.

I know a lovely Digby.
