NO Girls Name 2 weeks to go...

Two weeks to go and still no girls name. Have an Isabella. Don't want anything in the top 50 (made that mistake before). Would like something a bit unusual. Have a common traditional surname. Dh is wary of anything too 'hippy' or 'ethinic' but I am more open. I really like Priya/Pria. And yes I do like pretty pretty names.

Aargh!! Why is it sooo hard? Everyone here seems so good at listing lots of names. DH has a list of three and I'm not keen on any of them...

Please help!

Thanks everyone. I think I am looking for something much more unusual than last time (Isabella). That's why Romily appeals. Finding it impossible to please DH - to him it sounds like 'a general'!!??*!

I guess Melissa would be quite unusual for this generation??

I like Julianna, Marianna and Aurelia from the suggestions so far. DH is querying whether they are too much of a mouthful??

We got lots of negative comments and Hmm faces when we told people we had picked Romilly for DD1. We had Rommel/Romulin/Romany comments.

Don't get them now, though. It's a great name.

What about:

Ianthe
Perdita/Perdy (Have I spelled that right? Should it be Purdita?)
Kitty
Cassia/Kezia

MuffinMouse · 06/04/2011 20:12

I like Ianthe or Xanthe?? Dh says no.

What about Marietta?

I had a DH like that. Made me really cross. He only came up with rubbish suggestions like Graham and Yvonne. Yes, really.

In the end with last baby (number 4) I told him I wouldn't talk about it unless he came up with something sensible. DC4 was without a name for about a week and we tried some out on him, but didn't register him until he was almost 6 weeks old. And in the end we gave him the same name as our cat!!! Hmm.

There are lots of Juliets where I live. Helena's OK - just nothing spectacular. Amelie was quite popular - but I think it's waning a bit.

If he likes Amelie, what about Amalia? More Germanic/Scandinavian version of the same name, and not very popular here - lots of European royalty throughout history with that name, similar in feel to Isabella.

QueenBathsheba · 06/04/2011 20:25

Marietta is nice, would it shortened to Marie?
I am a Samantha and I can't remember ever being anything other than Sam. I like my name but I dislike sam!
people have a tendancy to shorten names so it helps to pick something with a shortened version that you actually like.

Thanks thereisalight I had the same problem with DS1 - DH named him while I was recovering from a csection, and I've never really taken to the name. I've got the impression that Juliet is getting popular.

DD loves Seraphina and really wants to call DD2 that. (Is it bit 'now'?)

I also like Eugenie - what do you think?
