Am I being a tad too predictable

Ok so here goes.

Eliza
Mae
Sofia
Amelia
Amber
Jasmine
Saffron

Noah
Elijah
Samuel (sammy)
Jasper
Zachary

This is the shortlist of names that me and DH have managed to come up with for a second child that we will start TTC for in August. Seeing this list written down and reading other MN lists I feel Ill be seeing our name choice at the top of 2012 baby name list!

DH is reluctant to call a son Jasper...he keeps saying 'jasper carrot'?! But if my labour/birth is anything like my DD he will again give into anything in the delivery room! Jasper is my current top boys name choice though.

Amelia was our second choice for DD...however I need opinions as to if this is becoming too commen. I also feel Amber might be too??

Is Mae too middle name?

Is Sofia too chavvy?

Eliza...are we all thinking natalie cassidy whenb we hear this name now?

Whilst Samuel would be a family choice (Grandfather -in law) my DH would like to use Sammy as a childhood NN. This is the name I like the least

Also Noah and Elijah...too 'boden-esque'?

Help!!!!!

I like all of the except Mae and Sammy (Samuel is fine, maybe shortened to Sam instead?) Noah and Elijah are lovely, but my DH won't entertain calling a child Noah and we already know an Elijah. When you said predictable I had a list of names I was expecting to see and none of the above were on the list!

Names are popular for a reason (because - for the most part - they are nice). So nowt wrong with being 'predictable'.

From your list I like Mae for a girl. But not spelled like that - it's far prettier spelled as May IMO.

For boys I do actually really like Jasper. Cool nickname too - I can picture a little Jass running round the playground.

I agree on the Sam NN. However the grandfather in law calls himself this so we thought Sammy would differentiate the two?

And I also agree with the May spelling for Mae...the reason behind the alternate ending is that we already have a Poppy May, an Annie May and a Ruby May between our families. (Maybe the reason I see it as a middle name???) And whilst I have always thought May to be a lovely pretty name for a little girl, I can imagine her to grow up and wonder why we didnt give her 'another' name like her cousins...or am I reading too much into this!?

I would like to add Im not normally a fan of quirky spellings (Kaatelyn in DD preschool class springs to mind..why?!?!)

Eliza - I don't think of Natalie Cassidy but I do think it's a bit of a "trendy" name
Mae - quite nice, although prefer May spelling. May would be quite unusual as first name
Sofia - like, prefer Sophia spelling though. Lovely classic name
Amelia - like, again a very pretty classic
Amber - like
Jasmine - like
Saffron - not keen, a bit dated

Noah - faddy
Elijah - like, also like Eli
Samuel (sammy) - like, but if you're not keen tell your DH now, otherwise when you admit it he'll say "why didn't you say before?"
Jasper - OK but a funny combination of "carrot" and "stereotypical posh"
Zachary - like

The only one I don't like is Jasper (sorry, sorry). Wot Solar Panel said about it

daimbardiva · 04/04/2011 21:04

Sofia? Chavvy? Definitely not - it's a lovely name. Not keen on Amber or Jasmine or Eliza or Mae. Saffron is OK but prefer Saffi (a scandinavian name I think)

Not keen on Noah and Elijah - just too religious for me. Like Sammy best of your boys names, but not mad keen on any of them I'm afraid.

Sorry, not much help am I?!
