Oliver - how many do you know?

I'm not actually overly bothered about using a popular name, but have just found out Oliver was the number one name last year and just wondering how many baby Olivers people know. I don't know any....

Our other ideas are Edward, Thomas, Sam, and George.

Any other suggestions along those lines gratefully received!

Only 1 - a delightful 10 year old.

MillsAndDoom · 03/04/2011 13:21

Actually will do the other names too - this is in a school of 140

Edward - 0
Thomas - 3, plus 2 from other groups - all lovely sensitive boys
Sam - 3 - all cheeky
George - 1 (he's widely known to be a real pita)

Mirage · 03/04/2011 13:24

1 Oliver
4 Thomases
3 Sams
2 Georges

noddyholder · 03/04/2011 13:25

I know loads but I still like it! It is one of those timeless names I think that never sound common even with lots of them like James Edward etc.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 03/04/2011 13:25

2 Oliver I think
1 Edward
3 Thomas (but several on my antenatal thread seem to have chosen/are considering/already have one)
0 George
7 Sams, or maybe 8...cos I can't remember if he ended up Sam or Joshua

doormat · 03/04/2011 13:25

as a nursery nurse...i work with children with all the above names..x

  1. It's a lovely name!
Wafflenose · 03/04/2011 13:51

I'm a teacher and know:
6 Olivers
3 Edwards
2 Thomases (but a few years ago I had 3 in my class at the same time)
3 Georges (2 at school and 1 baby)
2 Sams

reddaisy · 03/04/2011 15:48

I know one Oliver who is 26.

thinkingkindly · 03/04/2011 17:30

I know several Olivers, a couple of Edwards, no Thomases, a couple of Georges and 2 Sams. I love Tom and Sam.

pirateparty · 03/04/2011 18:40

That's been really helpful, thank you all! From that it isn't quite as ubiquitous as I'd thought it might be and, as I said, I don't know any.

I'm still most keen on Oliver, and having quite a popular name myself and never been bothered about that I don't think I'm going to let it put me off! Which is lucky really as it seems all the names we like are quite popular!

I know several of each.
Oliver is lovely, hope you like Ollie too though :)

All the Georges I know have been major pitas too - wonder why.

Grumpla · 03/04/2011 23:35

1, my lovely lovely cousin!

muminthecity · 03/04/2011 23:38

I only know 1 Oliver and he's in his thirties. Every other boy at DD's school seems to be called Thomas - very popular around here at the moment!

MollieO · 03/04/2011 23:48

Only one in his year (yr 2) and he was the only one at nursery. When I see the name list I'm always amazed that I dont know more.

Five Olivers aged between 7 and 12.

Jack, Thomas and Sam also popular.

usualsuspect · 04/04/2011 22:34

none

BettyGrable · 05/04/2011 09:46

I know one baby Oliver and one old man called Oliver.

I love Ollie.

Perpetuallypregnant · 05/04/2011 09:57

I actually don't know any little olivers. Just 2 in their 20's.
I love it.
Sam 3
George (my fave boys name) 0
Edward 0
Thomas 1 but he's a Tom

Like them all apart from Edward.

booandbump · 05/04/2011 10:06

I know 3 Olivers all under 4.

stealthsquiggle · 05/04/2011 10:08

baby olivers - none - slightly older children - loads - there are 3 in DS's year (of ~30) and at least 1 or 2 in all the other (similar sized) years. A couple of Thomas', only one Sam that I can think of, and remarkably few Jack's. Loads of Edwards of all ages, though, and James'

stealthsquiggle · 05/04/2011 10:09

oh and at least one George per 30 DC (school age)

AvengingGerbil · 05/04/2011 10:11

There are four Olivers in my DS(11)'s yeargroup of 60.
