I'm partly welsh. DH is partly scottish, expecting DC2 end of the year. DH vetoes EVERY boys' welsh name I come with...help me find one he'll at least consider!

He's said no to:
Gethin
Myrddin
Brynn
Dylan
Emrys
Gwylim
Trystan
Iago

Iolo
Arfon
Ianto

runningmonkey · 30/03/2011 18:33

We've got these on our list. Bit more anglicised as we live in England and DH's family already struggle with DD's Welsh name!

Evan/Iwan (both forms of John)
Owen
Hwyel (or the variation Howell)
Steffan
Huw

Evan is current fave.

As for middle names, I am pushing for 'proper' Welsh - Iolo, Aneurin, Taliesin, etc... can you go down a similar route

I also love Ieuan (also form of John) and Guto but these have been vetoed as too Welsh by DH

HTH

runningmonkey · 30/03/2011 18:33

Ioan? (pronounced Yo-an) a form of John
Or Sion (pronounced Sean) another John
Dyfrig

Dafydd
Alun

Meirion
Winford
Eifion
Dai
Heddwyn
Wynn
Meredydd
Gwydion (went to school with a Gwydion, and his nickname was Gitso)
Mervyn (although I have a client at work called Mervyn, and I always say in my head Merv the Perv - he isnt a perv at all, but my thought processes are very mean)
Trevor (the reverand who married us was called Trevor, and in my head he was always Rev Trev)
Gwynfor

My favourite welsh names are Dafydd, Morgan and Geraint.

I think Morgan almost sounds Scottish?

Good luck!

Fresh2death · 30/03/2011 19:45

Taff?

SenSationsMad · 30/03/2011 20:00

Cai: Morgan, Sion, Caio;
Dylan, Aron, Jac, Tomos
Aled, Huw, Osian,

I have a brother ( 40yrs) called Dewi, and while living in England, was called Duey, as in Donald duck's nephew - Huey, Duey an Louie!

Vicky2011 · 30/03/2011 21:34

Glyndwr
Morgan
Dafydd
Caleb

Am Envy as have a German surname and none of my fave Welsh names would have worked at all for DS. Those are the four we liked the best but even squeezed in as a second middle name, none worked.

Rhidian/Rhydian
