Finally pregnant with dc 2. Have ds called ethan, surname is one syllable beginning with L. Due to family tradition, middle name for a boy likely to be Arthur, middle name for a girl likely to be Rae. Thoughts on our initial choices or suggestions for other names? Thank-you!

BOYS
Isaac
Sebastian
Angus
Elliot
Rafe

GIRLS
Xanthe
Kate
Bethan
Imogen
Isabel

Angus - we have a 12 week old one - so love it.

Sebastian - I like a lot, too

Elliot - I don't like but that's because of an unpleasant boy at primary school called Elliot and I've never quite managed to hear the name and not think of him.

Isaac - I used to love it but I think it's used quite a lot.
Rafe - not sure I really like it

Xanthe - love it, Dh didn't like it
Kate - Lovely, timeless
Bethan - not overly keen, but nothing wrong with it
Imogen - lovely - but there are LOADS where I live
Isabel - ditto

What about Ianthe - it means Violet - and it sort of combines Xanthe and your 'I' names, but is possibly less used? Not that there are loads of Xanthes around, but it comes up on this board from time to time.

Oh - and Congratulations!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 29/03/2011 22:18

Phew that the first post was positive, thank-you! Ianthe I think I prefer but DH prefers Xanthe, also think latter rolls better with our surname. I would love Lucas or lyra but they sound silly with our surname

And Sophie Dahl and Jamie Cullum have just had a baby girl they've named Lyra - so it could get popular, if that bothers you.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 29/03/2011 22:23

What about Theo?

Or Tess (one of my favourites, but I'll never get to use it now).

BOYS
Isaac - love
Sebastian - love
Angus - like a lot, I think it's a grower
Elliot - not too keen (think it's the lack of nn)
Rafe - I really like this, but something puts me off, but I won't share it because I'm being ridiculous, and I wouldn't want to put you off too!!

GIRLS
Xanthe - not keen, but think it's because I knew one
Kate - love love love
Bethan - not keen (but again I knew one!) Love Beth though! Maybe short for Elizabeth instead?
Imogen - love
Isabel - like

Oh and further suggestions...

Oliver (biased, but LOVE it)
Elijah (umming and ahhing between this and Isaac at the mo, in fact just about to start a thread :))

Phoebe
Lilia
Robyn
Sophia
Pearl

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 30/03/2011 12:55

I love Phoebe out of suggestions so far...generally sticking away from names with L in them as our surname makes them all sound ridiculous(apart from Elliot)!!

Any other opinions gratefull welcomed

Noah / Beatrice

Yamba · 03/04/2011 21:37

Like Elliot and Kate best.

brightcopperkettles · 04/04/2011 02:56

I love Kate, but think that Kate Rae Xx is too many one syllable names?

With Rae I like Xanthe, Bethan or Isabel best.

I like Sebastian and Isaac best of your boys names.

Other suggestions:
Catherine
Felicity
Eloise
Anita

Elias
Joseph
Samuel

I know you intend to have a middle name but would probably be a little on the cautious side with initials XL if you went for Xanthe.

CharlieCoCo · 04/04/2011 19:59

for the middle name as Rae from your list Bethan goes nice with it, though i pref3er Bethany. or Imogen Rae is nice.
i dont really like thee boys names with Arthur as a mn
