Matilda, Holly or Emily

I have a few months to go and don't know if I'm having a boy or a girl. If its a boy we have chosen Finley but we're stuck for a girls name.
Which do you prefer:
Matilda (nickname Mattie probably, rather than Tilly)
Holly
Emily

(We also like Olive and Imogen)

Like Matilda best.
Also Emilia?

I like Holly and Imogen. Love Finley for a boy! Good luck!!!

Matilda

mamaduckbone · 25/03/2011 21:03

Matilda, shortened to Tilda for me. Would have been our girl's name if it went with our surname. Much more interesting than the other 2.

I like Matilda best, but probably coloured by the fact this is DD's best friend's name. It's 'of our time' but not too common.

Greenwing · 25/03/2011 21:04

Love Matilda.
Like Imogen

Don't like the others but Olive is the worst - Olive Oil the wife of Popeye?

Matilda. Fwiw, I wasn't massively keen on Tilly as a nn and had intended to use Mattie but, as a baby/young child, Tilly just seemed to work.

CharlieBoo · 25/03/2011 21:06

Emily by far the nicest....Finlay and Matilda are a tad trendy for me. I wander if in 20 years people will still be calling their babies these names, whereas I was at school with an Emily 30 years ago, its so timeless and classic.

puddle2 · 25/03/2011 21:35

My worry is that Matilda and Finley are too 'trendy'.
Even though both names have been around for ages they do seem to be going through a popularity surge now.
Saying that - I'm a teacher and know loads of Emilys, Thomas's, Jacks and other timeless/classic names. But only 1 Matilda and 1 Finley.

What do Matilda lovers think of Mattie as a nickname?

I like Mattie as a nn. DD was named after my grandmother, so I never really understand the "trendy" comments. She is also the only one I know of. Lots of Emily', Hollys, Jacks, Charlies etc.

monkeymiss · 25/03/2011 22:14

Not so keen on Mattie as nn as it sounds boyish.

monkeymiss · 25/03/2011 22:15

I didn't like Tilly either mind until I got used to it. DD1 calls her best friend Tilda. Makes me laugh coz of the rice but I think it's sweet.

monkeymiss · 25/03/2011 22:16

Emily's a bit boring don't you think. I've never met an exciting Emily Blush

Halogen · 25/03/2011 22:23

Matilda is lovely. I have to say I'm not too keen on Finley, though. I think it's had its day (about seven years ago).
