Violet

Hi all

TTC and considering potential future names (it took us ages to decide last time). We have got a number of contenders for boys but nothing really appeals to us apart from the name Violet for girl. However, our surname is Vikes, so my question to you is do you think it goes?

Violet Vikes

Violet is lovely, but it is too much when combined with your surname, sorry.

Sorry, VV isn't a good sound. Yours is a tricky surname all right. What about Scarlett (unless you already have a DD called that)

What are your boys names, it will give us an idea of your taste.

maybe a name with more syllables will run nicely with Vikes. Don't know what kind of names you like other than Violet but say Emilia Vikes goes quite well to my ears

I've solved it. Violetta. the extra sylablle really changes the sound.

Kreecher -It is tricky alright . We dont have a Scarlett, but it is my neice's name so have ruled that one out. I really agree that the extra sylablle is needed for our surname. I think Violetta sounds beautiful but again, do you think it matters about the VV initials?

zzz - I love Emillia but for some reason my DH doesn't but he does like Emily and Emma.

Felix
Alexander
Henry

Oh by the way, our sons name is Ben. At the time, we preferred short one syllable names but for the next one, have come around to the idea of longer names sounding better with our surname.

I like the name Violet, but definitely not with your surname, it doesn't go at all sorry!

Violet is lovely, but not with Vikes, sorry. Middle name? You could have something Violet something Vikes to avoid them being too close together. I'd definitely go for a longish name - Elizabeth, Amelia, Arabella, Susannah etc.

How about Viola?

Our surname begins with a V too and we thought that names ending in an A, L, N or M sound worked best. We thought about loads of V names Violet, Victor, Vanessa etc but eventually decided against it.

DS has suggested Voldemort as a possible name for new baby LOL

Thanks everyone for all your feedback and suggestions. Although Violet is a beautiful name, I think in this instance we are going to avoid it is a first name. I think I would spend too much time thinking everytime I heard it said with our surname. We would possibly use it as a middle name. We have obviously got lots of time to think about names anyway but it is nice talking about it . Others we are now considering are:

Arabella (thanks Halogen) Violet
Sophia Violet
Florence Violet
Rosaline or Rosa (dont think Violet goes)
Willow? (as above)

Finessa - Voldemort

Rosanna Violet flows well?

Jollster - Rosanna is lovel too. I shall add it to my list
