Dylan's this era's version of Kevin.

Julia is so much nicer.

MackerelOfFact · 23/03/2011 09:44

Julie is very dated as others have said - would you consider Juliette with the nickname Julie?

Makingaminime · 23/03/2011 10:06

Duh-lyn??? Never ever heard this pn in my entire life!

Julie is nice, maybe short for Juliette which I am loving at the moment.

IntergalacticHussy · 23/03/2011 10:24

are you starting a 60's folk band ? Wink

I agree that Julie is Dylan's mum.
That said, Julie is really pretty and will one day really be due a comeback. (ditto Karen) Just not yet. We've got to have the Barbara and Susan and Janet revival first.
I know Dylan is traditional and Welsh and so on, but I find it on a par with Josh and Ryan. That sort of thing.

napoleona · 23/03/2011 10:36

I think you should start a 'Julie' revival and it makes me think 'pretty' - bit like 'Jolie' i spose, I prefer it to Julia. I dont hate the name Dylan but its too popular round here and that makes it a no for me! I think if you both like the names then you are sorted.

lostinwales · 23/03/2011 10:39

I found these on the net to help explain how Dylan is sounded out in Welsh as I am clearly pants at it!

'it's

"dull - anne."

dull as in "that was really dull (boring)" , anne as in the name Anne.'

Or like this

audio

It means 'son of the sea' apparently!

Hedwig3 · 23/03/2011 12:07

I quite like Julie.

Makingaminime · 23/03/2011 12:52

lostinwales I can't do it, I just can't! It sounds totally ridiculous when I try to say Dull-anne, maybe it's my dodgy Scottish accent.

babyapplejack · 23/03/2011 12:57

Julie is very nice, Dylan is also nice.

I don't think they would go well together for siblings though.

I like Julie and Dylan.

I find Julia hard to say. (Scottish).

breadandhoney · 23/03/2011 16:22

I would also suggest Julia or Juliet rather than Julie. It sounds a bit "common" to my ear. Dylan is ok.

LittleDonkin · 23/03/2011 17:01

I really wanted to call my 5 month old DD Julie but my DH wasnt having any of it! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

As a compromise DD's middle name is Juliana
