Have always loved this name, but not sure if it's just because it makes me think of gingerbread cottages covered in candy...?! What do you think? :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PurveyorOfWoo · 20/03/2011 00:03

Gretel brings out the same in me

'raindrops on roses...'

PepsiPopcorn · 20/03/2011 00:07

Greta is more Garbo and less gingerbread.

EllenJane1 · 20/03/2011 01:10

Too fairytale. I prefer Greta as well.

GKlimt · 20/03/2011 01:15

Not so good for a teenager or adult. Sorry.

Rhubarbgarden · 20/03/2011 08:18

Love it.

exoticfruits · 20/03/2011 08:33

I thought it was Gretel.
I think that it would be embarrassing when older.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 20/03/2011 09:30

Horrible.

poppydaisy · 20/03/2011 09:33

Really don't like Gretel or Gretchen - it sounds so old fashioned and uncool.

Greta if you must.

ValiumSingleton · 20/03/2011 10:24

I love it! iT'S so pretty.

but didn't she nearly get eaten by a witch? I know that a child could make this name their own though. I know a couple of children named ophelia which is a godamawful thing to do to a child. Gretel is much nicer imo.

Bonsoir · 20/03/2011 10:25

Greta is much prettier than Gretel.

RobynLou · 20/03/2011 10:26

I like it, but then I've got a 6wo Greta which is pretty close.

rachel234 · 20/03/2011 11:28

Either Gretel or Greta, but Gretal looks & sounds wrong imo. Not fond of either, I'm afraid.

blueberrymoon · 20/03/2011 12:01

purvey that too!

Ooopsy I meant Gretel Blush

valium yes I've only just realised how scary that fairytale actually is!

Wiki has just informed me that 'Hansel' and 'Gretel' mean 'Little John' and 'Little Margaret'

I like Margaret (nns Gretel, Greta, Meg, Margot, Pearl), but not sure about it for a little girl today, has anybody got one or know of one..? Interested to know people's reactions to the name...

DD has Margaret as a middle name after a family member. I like it. Maggie as a nickname is nice, but has Thatcher overtones.

LawrieMarlow · 20/03/2011 12:36

Meg is a nice nickname for Margaret. Or Daisy or Peggy.
