Which of these do you prefer and why?

Thanks

Poppy. I just think it's prettier :)

cece · 18/03/2011 23:05

Like them both equally

Do you like the colour red?! Perhaps you should add Scarlett!

Misfitless · 18/03/2011 23:11

I prefer Poppy

AprilRose · 18/03/2011 23:16

Prefer Poppy. Sounds prettier than Ruby, and a bit less chavvy if they were to be placed on a sliding scale of chavviness...

ja9 · 18/03/2011 23:22

I prefer Poppy. I think it's very cute. I love the colour red. And, Ruby is very popular in my area / circles just now.

CharlieBoo · 19/03/2011 00:26

Poppy

simpson · 19/03/2011 00:29

like both but prefer Poppy...

flopsy1974 · 19/03/2011 00:37

Ruby is a gorgeous name and to say it is so popular I don't know any or have heard of any. Lovely name Smile

bilblio · 19/03/2011 01:15

Poppy, my favourite flower. Considered it for own DD but chose something more meaningful to us. When DD was born we made friends with a Mum and her daughter Poppy (who really suits it) so it'd be too confusing if we used it for no.2.

muminthemiddle · 19/03/2011 09:06

I can't really choose between them so would say pick which goes best with your surname.

purepurple · 19/03/2011 09:10

Ruby is very popular at the moment. Every second baby seems to be called it.
Poppy is a bit twee for me, would suit a baby but not sure about a grown adult.

AmandaCooper · 19/03/2011 09:13

Another vote for Poppy!

cazzybabs · 19/03/2011 09:19

I have a Poppy - everyone comments on what a nice name it is. It may be a bit cutsey for adulthood - I can't decide but she can always use her middle name. But it does seem to be getting popular

squeak2392 · 19/03/2011 15:15

Eep. I have quite strong opinions on these names, so I shall try to control myself, and I hope you don't take offence.

Despite the recent use of Ruby on chav children (I know of a Ruby-Mae, whose mother... let's not go there) I much prefer this to Poppy. Honestly, Ruby really is a chav name where I live.
Ruby was a name I loved as a child, whereas Poppy I have always thought is the stupidest name in the book. This is alongside Daisy though, and I believe those are the two most popular flower names right now, so obviously I'm in the minority here.

Definitely Ruby - chavvy, but SO pretty.

PepsiPopcorn · 19/03/2011 16:49

Poppy

OwlMother · 19/03/2011 16:50

Poppy. There are a lot of Rubys out there!

pointydog · 19/03/2011 17:06

Ruby. Not as twee as Poppy.

Onion1968 · 19/03/2011 19:35

For me I would think of a Ruby as a strong character, perhaps a bit feisty, certainly not one to be walked over. Poppy would be an ethereal creature who drives a VW Beetle and opens an art gallery.

Both nice names but conjure different images for me. This may help, or may not. Smile

bubbles12 · 19/03/2011 20:28

I prefer Poppy but DH has very helpfully said he likes both.

CPtart · 19/03/2011 20:51

I agree, I know a few Rubys, becoming increasingly common. Don't like Poppy, can't imagine a 40 year called Poppy! Too cutesy girly for me.

EllenJane1 · 19/03/2011 20:58

Poppy. Don't worry about when they are older. I couldn't imagine a teenager called George a few years ago, but now they have got there, it's fine.

Graciewitch · 19/03/2011 21:45

Poppy.

sparkle12mar08 · 19/03/2011 21:49

Neither, both are dreadfully over used at the moment and will date very badly imo.

MelinaM · 19/03/2011 22:20

^I agree, they are both uber, uber popular! I do prefer Poppy though, plus it is slightly less well used than Ruby! x
