Nobody is looking at my first thread so here goes....
We've agreed on a girl's name but cannot think of a boy's.
Byron is on the table but I am unsure.
Any ideas?

I know a man called byron
he is about 70 and very fat
every time I see him I think he is ill-named

If you and your DH's family run to handsome, tall men with floppy hair then I think it is a possibility. If they are small, swarthy with a tendency to stoutness and baldness I'd say no

Renaissance227 · 16/03/2011 16:19

Our family is full of tall and athletic men, so is Byron a good idea?

OP posts:
freshmint · 16/03/2011 16:34

yes, why not!
if it sounds good with your surname. he will be teased at times and he will be distinctive (and will barely have to use his surname as he'll be the only byron anybody knows) but it is a legitimate name...

tall and athletic byron sounds cool IMO

MadreInglese · 16/03/2011 16:34

I know a Byron, he is a personal trainer

TheVisitor · 16/03/2011 16:35

The only Byron's I know are screeched at full volume.

TheVisitor · 16/03/2011 16:36

and I apologise profusely for that erroneous apostrophe.

redrobin · 16/03/2011 16:37

i know a byron, he was my tutor at university, he was a drunken old lech, but quite grand. can't quite equate it with baby, but Lord Byron....quite romantic!

Renaissance227 · 16/03/2011 16:38

The reaction I am getting from you TheVisitor is the reaction that is putting me off using the name.

Thanks for your opinions freshmint and MadreInglese

Thanks redrobin. I'm not sure I can see a baby called Byron either! Still unsure.

Any other suggestions anyone?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/03/2011 16:40

TheVisitor, think you may know the same Byron as me Grin

KristinaM · 16/03/2011 16:41

No please don't
It's too much to live up to

suspiria · 16/03/2011 16:41

I know a 9 year old Byron and I'm afraid I can confirm TheVisitor is correct.

Renaissance227 · 16/03/2011 16:43

So due to a few of you knowing some naughty posh little Byrons it is off the table as a name I could use?

Any other suggestions?

OP posts:
freshmint · 16/03/2011 16:43

hmm
if you want something different and a bit old fashioned and a bit upper class maybe Gilbert? Esmund/Edmund? Peregrine? Roland? Giles?

Not entirely sure what you are looking for. Cant' relate Byron to anything else! Valentine?

Renaissance227 · 16/03/2011 16:45

I liked Henry but I was the only one!
Not needing an upperclass name. Just something traditional and unusual without sounding stupid and/or old fashioned.

I did like Edmund but having read King Lear I think not!

DS, who is one of his best mates, says "he's not a clever chap". Lovely though.

Have often wondered how is parents came up with a name that really doesn't suit him. The only think I can think of is Byron comes up on the titles for Noddy and his Mum must have been watching a lot of Milkshake Grin

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 16/03/2011 16:46

Nah, just a posh Brian innit ?

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 16/03/2011 16:46

Call him Sebastian and ave done wivvit

JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/03/2011 16:47

The only Valentine I've ever known died in a crack den.

Renaissance227 · 16/03/2011 16:48

Never thought of it as a posh Brian before but now I do maybe it is definitely out of the window!

OP posts:
JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/03/2011 16:48

Nowt posh about the Byron I know Grin

Renaissance227 · 16/03/2011 16:49

Don't like Sebastian or Valentine! Yuk!

OP posts:
freshmint · 16/03/2011 16:50
