I like Pearl and Tabitha, Seth & Chester.

Vicky2011 · 13/03/2011 23:08

I think there is a slight danger of trying too hard with these but a lot depends on your surname. If it's a really straightforward name, maybe do the "facebook test" checking you don't get 1000s of hits [confessionsmiley] but if you've got an unusual surname I would probably go for something more like an Emily or a James so that they won't need to spell two names. Others have mentioned the CV test (which I agree with) but I think the introducing-yourself-on-the-phone test is a good one too.

Clio99 · 13/03/2011 23:15

I like Seth, a lot.
Ivy and Pearl are ok.
Not keen on the others.

fatlazymummy · 14/03/2011 00:32

The only name I like out of all these is Skye, though I would spell it Sky.
Don't like any of the others.

Zaft · 14/03/2011 11:24

I like Seth and Ivy.

NutellaAddict · 14/03/2011 13:31

Honestly I think people are reading into these choices too much, if your son is called Saxon it doesn't necessarily mean he will be a tattoo'ed heavy metal listener (not that there is anything wrong with that anyway!) Wink Wink Smile

Any of them would be a lovely name, I don't find any, apart from Balthazar and Thaddeus which just seem "different for different's sake" to me, and Savannah which I find too American, all of them are lovely

India Pearl or India Skye
Athena Skye
Ivy Clementine

are my fave girls ones

Seth Roman would be my fave boy combo

alexaj · 14/03/2011 19:41

Clementine - a joke surely.
Octavia - see above.
Ivy - OK.
Athena - ridiculous.
Pearl - OK.
Blossom - stupid.
Tabitha - a cat.
Skye - a dog.
India - too middle class.
Savannah - too American.

Chester - a monkey.
Balthazar - stupid.
Roman - stupider.
Thaddeus - worst name yet.
Seth - OK.
Saxon - awful.
Jasper - a cat.

There's no names here I can give two thumbs up to. Really really bad selection. Especially the boys.

weimy · 14/03/2011 21:19

Roman and Octavia lovely, suspect you would need an italian connection tho. :)

IAmTheCookieMonster · 14/03/2011 21:24

They are all awful pretentious names except Seth which is ok.

ChessPiece · 14/03/2011 21:40

Octavia - Lovely, more traditional than Clementine. Quite sloany if that bothers you.
Ivy - Very cute
Athena - Pushy parents

What varied responses!!

I guess as I like unusual names not everyone is going to like them! I would like to say that some of the names I like but wouldn't be brave enough to use, just thought I try them out and it seems I was right!

I think my faves are Roman and Octavia as my fathers family are Italian and my name is v v Italian so I think we could pull it off!

If I start a post again I will keep in mind that there's a thin line between honest and bitchy, ouch!

I know a good few Thaddeuses in Ireland. And a lot of polish people use Thaddeus (or the polish version of it) so it's actually in the top fifty names in Ireland I think! I like it.

The rest of your boys names are.... well. Chester, yes, woof woof. Balthazar, very very very try hard.
Roman - no. The C word.
Seth - ok but I don't like it. Prefer Saul
Saxon - [clutches sides laughing] anglo is hanging in the air.
Jasper - ok but he'd have a very annoying mother.

Girls names, I like Pearl the best.

jimswifein1964 · 17/03/2011 21:51

Seth is lovely lovely lovely lovely Smile

PuraVida · 17/03/2011 21:59
