What do you think of Araminta as a girl's name?

And do you think it sits well with sibling Isobel?

So posh you need to be the type who wouldn't in a million years care or bother to ask what mn thinks.

FWIW I love it.

It is also the poshest name I know too and to be honest none of my dealings with the very wealthy have inspired me to want to emulate them in any way. Superficial springs to mind. Pretty sounding name, but be careful what you wish for, intentionally or otherwise. If you don't have a Swiss bank account then forget it, she will be ridiculed at both ends of the class spectrum and the middle too.

I knew an Araminta buy she was a Minty. Her mum was terribly posh so it kind of suited her but it is such a difficult name to carry off unless you are terribly posh, imho. It's a hard one to live up to I think and I can usually see redeeming features in most names. Sorry.

eatyourveg · 12/03/2011 15:43

sounds like a racehorse to me - sorry

Onion1968 · 12/03/2011 16:54

Awful. Truly awful and "sounds like a dodgy liqueur" - absolutely Tuschinski.

Lead character in one of my fave books growing up (Helen Cresswell's Moondial)I love it, but think it might be a bit much in real life though.

EllenJane1 · 19/03/2011 21:32

You don't really want my opinion on this name!

Graciewitch · 19/03/2011 21:32

Looks like it's back to the drawing board Sad

When she is an adult she will wear tweeds and pearls, bray loudly about Mummy and Daddy's chalet in Chambery, marry an investment banker called Tarquin and have a Labrador

MmeLindt · 19/03/2011 21:37

But I do love Isabel. Someone suggested Astrid. That would go well with Isabel and is really pretty.

ValiumSingleton · 19/03/2011 22:39

Araminta is horrible. lol @ maras2 saying 'are you tripping?? straight from a jilly cooper novel'.

Sister to an Isobel I would think of a much prettier name along the lines of

Shona
Anya
Clara
Flora
Maggie
Emily
Jemima
Lydia
Susie
Lucia
Martha

I think it is absolutely fine as long as you are truly an aristocrat, otherwise it is ill considered

elphabadefiesgravity · 19/03/2011 22:54

Don't like it, it is the name of one of the ugly sisters in a Cinderella adaptation.

poppydaisy · 20/03/2011 09:44

I like it and Minty is a cute nickname.
