What are the opinions out there on the following names:
Savannah Rose
Elizabeth Maria
Elizabeth Rose

Very curious on your feedback. FYI the proposed middle names are from either grandmother...

Thanks!

Elizabeth all the way.
Elizabeth Rose is nice, but Rose is a bit of a default middle name (ie if not May, it seems to be Rose)
Wouldn't the other granny get the hump if you used only one of them? Grin

MamaLazarou · 09/03/2011 09:01

Savannah is lovely. There are billions of Elizabeths. How about Savannah Elizabeth?

jellybeans · 09/03/2011 09:07

Savannah Rose...like this the best, what would it get shortened to though, Sav? Anna?
Elizabeth Maria...OK, will get Lizzy so depends if you like it.
Elizabeth Rose...OK, prefer Rose to Marie

HappySeven · 09/03/2011 09:48

I don't know any (baby) Elizabeths and think it's a lovely classical name that can be shortened to various names (Liz, Lizzy, Beth, Libby) depending what the child likes as she grows.

DrSeuss · 09/03/2011 09:52

Will be having a baby Elizabeth in May. Of your choice of middle names, I like rose. You could buy a Queen Elizabeth rose bush to put in the garden when she arrives.

randomimposter · 09/03/2011 09:53

I actually prefer the Elisabeth spelling, and agree on the many NN pro.

But I do like Savannah Rose very much. Would call her Anny.

fifi25 · 09/03/2011 10:46

Savannah Rose for me Smile

PepsiPopcorn · 09/03/2011 12:29
  1. Elizabeth Rose
  2. Elizabeth Maria
  3. Savannah Rose
Underachieving · 09/03/2011 13:13

I love Elizabeth but you have to be sure with a name with such huge nickname potential that you either like them or don't mind them. Elizabeth is commonly shortened to Eliza, Lizzie, Liz, Liza, Lizbet, Betty, Bet, Beth and probably some more I have forgotten. While you can chose your own nickname for baby at first, sooner or later in life thier aquaintances, friends, partners or colleages will try out most of them. If you find yourself loathing the nicknames this can be difficult.

I personally don't really like any of the nicknames for Elizabeth except Eliza and so I could only use it for a middle name where it wouldn't be shortened. If the nicknames don't put you off then go for Elizabeth Rose because it's lovely and timeless.

flopsy1974 · 09/03/2011 13:46

I prefer traditional names so I'd go with Elizabeth maria.
Not keen on savannah at all.

SilkStalkings · 09/03/2011 13:57

Not that keen on traditional names but prefer Elizabeth to Savannah which I find a little Valley girl-ish (US bimbo). Elizabeth has lots of nickname options so she could reinvent herself whenever she felt like it.

pilates · 09/03/2011 20:05

Elizabeth Rose

breadandhoney · 09/03/2011 21:05

Savannah is lovely. Not keen on Elizabeth. Only Elizabeths I know are my mum's age.

WhipMeIndiana · 09/03/2011 21:07

what is 1st letter of your surname?

WhipMeIndiana · 09/03/2011 21:10

Savannah is lovely btw

you'll know when you see the baby if she is a Savannah or not..
my little girl was Amber for half an hour before we decided against!

Don't like Maria

ComeAlongPond · 09/03/2011 23:27

Love Elizabeth, but I'm not keen on any of the shortened versions of it. Savannah's nice too - the two Savannahs I know are both shortened to Savvy.

HKM2B · 10/03/2011 01:25

We're probably having a double barreled surname (combination of mine and DH, which is now mine) which is 3 syllables, beginning with "H". Wanted longer first names just in case we decided to go with DH's one syllabled surname ultimately...

I don't mind the shortened versions of Elizabeth too much (apart from Liz, which my DH likes and I love Beth which he's not so keen on...) and hadn't thought of Libby until HappySeven mentioned it, which we both really like - although too much alliteration with DH's surname (which begins with "L") :D

We also don't mind Sav/Savvy. I know it rhymes with chav/chavvy but we're not chav-tastic so shouldn't be a problem :p

Am loving the feedback, ladies. Thanks!

I loathe the name Savannah. It manages to sound simultaneously trashy and like you're trying to be posh like the Phillipses.

Elizabeth is a wonderful, classic beautiful name. Don't spell it the French way unless you're going to pronounce it the French way.

nooka · 10/03/2011 06:04

I like Elizabeth, and I'm not very keen on Savannah. What about Susannah instead? Perhaps slightly less common than Elizabeth, but still fairly classic.

With regard to the middle name I might be more inclined to go for Maria because Rose seems to be such a frequently used middle name, and your dd might come across other Elizabeth Roses, but I'd decide depending on which has the best rhythm with your surname(s)

GabySolis · 10/03/2011 19:55

I'm a traditional name lover, I like the name Elizabeth Rose best, a really pretty, lovely name.

cowboylover · 11/03/2011 22:32

Elizabeth Rose is really nice and with a one syllable surname it would work well as maybe Maria to many especially if you are considering going double barrel.
