I know Sophia is an old name but to your ear does it sound classic or trendy?

Classic.

But there are an awful lot around at the moment - especially if you include Sophie and Sofia as well.

BarbieLovesKen · 08/03/2011 13:50

Oh definately classic!!

Voddy · 08/03/2011 13:58

I'd say classic but gaining popularity.

Starsandcars · 08/03/2011 14:00

Classic but very popular at the moment

breadandhoney · 08/03/2011 14:00

not very common where i live. LOTS of sophies tho. however, my name is lauren and i grew up with a lot of lauras but never knew another lauren. made me feel a bit special that my name was just a little bit different.

Classic and beautiful.

PepsiPopcorn · 08/03/2011 16:54

Classic. It's fashionable but this doesn't make it any less classic, it's the "non-classics" that will sound more dated in a few years.

ilovesprouts · 08/03/2011 19:15

classic ,i have a sophie 19 :)

CharlieBoo · 08/03/2011 19:28

Bit of both for me. There seems to be loads born here lately...I much prefer Sophie.

pointydog · 08/03/2011 19:38

classic

MarshaBrady · 08/03/2011 19:40

I love it. Classic.

soccerwidow · 08/03/2011 19:46

trendy - there are 2 in DS Reception Class

MrsSnow · 08/03/2011 20:04

I love it.

I think its because Sophia seems to be an international name - have friends who are Pakistani, Russian, Cypriot, Ghanaian and English who all have a Sophia/Sofia/Sophie! Culturally it fits their backgrounds.

breadandhoney · 08/03/2011 20:05

i like that about it too. it travels well, so to speak.

Too popular - lost any specialness for me as there are so many of them.

Fleecy · 08/03/2011 22:49

My DD's name - we wanted something that was classic and outside the top 50 but the year she was born it them climbed into the top 50. Ah well, I think it's beautiful Smile

GetOrfMoiLand · 08/03/2011 22:56

Classic - a lovely name (mother of a Sophia)

It was quite an unusual choice 15 years ago, however it is very common now I think.

Ah well I still think it is a beautiful name. My daughter, however, hates her name. Typical.

Underachieving · 09/03/2011 16:23

Trendy is my first thought.

cocoachannel · 09/03/2011 17:59

Sophia- trendy unless you're from France or Italy.

Sophie- classic.

SE13Mummy · 09/03/2011 19:08

Classic, cross-cultural and currently trendy. But gorgeous.

In the primary school where I teach we have a Sophia, Safiya or Sofia in every year group.

Tuschinski · 10/03/2011 10:22

Sophie = classic
Sophia = trendy

Edmundo · 10/03/2011 10:38

Trendy.

Sophie is FAR more classic.

ThisFeelsWeird · 10/03/2011 14:26

Much much much Sophie.

Sophia just seems bit "grande dame" to me for a little girl. I would expect Sophia to waltz around in marabou feathers and pearls.

ophie is lovely and much classier.

ThisFeelsWeird · 10/03/2011 14:27

Er, that's "much much much PREFER"

and "S" ophie... eek, really shouldn't drink in the day.

maandpa · 10/03/2011 17:14

Classic and very pretty.
