I've just read the K names thread. Is Katrina really considered chavvy?

Not at all. I know a katrina she is 9, lovely and not at all chavvy!

BlueChampagne · 08/03/2011 12:51

No - but you could use Catriona just to be on the safe side Wink

I like Catriona but DH doesn't want it to start with a C as says nickname would be Cat!! He thinks Kat looks better than Cat...

No. Not at all.

I personally love some K names i.e. I think K on Katherine is much, much prettier than Catherine and if this ones a girl it'll be a Kate. Pah - I think the whole K names are chavvy is just ridiculous and stupid.

(p.s I also think Katrina is much nicer with a K and agree with your dh)

Kat is sooo chavvy :)

ShowOfHands · 08/03/2011 14:28

I know two Catrionas, both Scottish. I much prefer that spelling.

There are some lovely K names as Barbie says. That said, a lot of the names I don't like are also k names.

randomimposter · 08/03/2011 14:32

it's my MN ... so not chavvy at all!! Grin

there are some K names which do look a bit made up, often described therefore as chavvy, but IMHO Katrina is not one of them.

PepsiPopcorn · 08/03/2011 14:33

It's a lovely name. Much prefer Katrina spelling.

CanNeverDecide · 08/03/2011 20:28

Thanks, all.

We're Indian so thought Catriona wouldn't work for us being as it's quite traditionally Scottish etc. as well as the whole C versus K thing.

Also thought about spelling it Catrina, but think that's just wrong.

We're not keen on Kat either as a nickname, but feel it may be inevitable as she grows older. We've been calling her Katy for short!

Katrina is a lovely name. Not chavvy round here.

Onion1968 · 08/03/2011 22:00

Katrina is not chavvy. Kat is. Maybe if you have to shorten in then Katy or Rina?
