to give your baby the same name as a friends child? Even though we live in the same town, there will be a few years difference in age & they won't be in the same school. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I think it depends how popular the name is - if it's 'Jack', then there are enough of them around for it not to look like you 'copied', but if it's 'Montgomery-Lettitzpintha' then it would be a little odd to use the same name.

Do you know how your friend would feel about you using the name? Would she be flattered or a bit pissed off?

I don't think it should be a problem at all.

Littlemissw We have chosen our name for DS due in 5 weeks. It's the same name of someone's son we know back home (we moved 150 miles away 2 years ago). The family are sort of DHs subsitute family, he is good friends with the son and the mum is/was like a surrogate mum when he was growning up. It's the daughters sons name we've gone for. It's not a common name, but it's a name we both love without any doubts. I've not spoken to the daughter about it, because I don't have that kind of friendship with her, but I have spoken to my friends and asked if I named my baby yur baby's name how would you feel? I didn't get any negative feed back. In fact most of it was along the lines "no one owns a name", and "it's flattering you like my DC's name enough to use it, you've got good taste".

If you love a name go for it. At the end of the day your DC will be a different person from your friends DC. Good luck!

It would annoy me tbh - but then in saying that I'm probably BU!
I have a friend with a fairly unusual name, a friend of her family named their DC the same name and her parents, and my friend were all very put out about it, so I know I'm not the only one!
