What do you think of Jude for a girl? Probably Judith on birth cert, but def Jude not Judy or Judi or Judith day to day?

Better with Judith on the bc.

My niece is just Jude and I still find it weird. I know 3 male Judes though.

spidookly · 02/03/2011 22:30

As nn for Judith maybe.

Although Judith is so nice, why not use the whole thing?

birdofthenorth · 02/03/2011 22:33

Really? Do you really think Judith works for this generation? I like it but unsure for a bubba

I know of 2 children names Jude, but they are both boys.

TBH I see it more as a boy's name than a girl's name.

Beamur · 02/03/2011 22:34

I know a Jude, not sure if its short for something else, but its a cool name for a girl

Elizadoesdolittle · 02/03/2011 22:37

I know a couple of Judes but they are both boys. In my mind it is a boy's name. I guess as a nn Jude would be ok for a girl.

mamawhoboreme · 02/03/2011 22:47

IMO, I like it as a middle name as opposed to a first name. Hannah Jude, Olivia Jude etc etc it goes well with multi-syllable names.

spidookly · 02/03/2011 22:53

I really like Judith. Why not for this generation?

birdofthenorth · 02/03/2011 23:49

spidookly I really don't know, I guess all the Judiths I know are older (in fact I know 3 between 40 & 50 & none older or younger) so I'm struggling to envisage a modern day baby or toddler with the name, but I do think it's beautiful though!

mamawho Yes this line of thought cane from mulling over Jude as a middle name before thinking I may like it so much it has to take centre stage!

I don't think Jude sounds right on a girl - Jude for a boy and Judith for a girl surely.

Hedwig3 · 03/03/2011 10:31

I like Judith and I think Jude would be fine as a nickname if she is still Judith some of the time too.

DandyDan · 03/03/2011 10:36

I think Jude sounds great on a girl and a boy and have known both. But I would put Judith on the bc.

spidookly · 03/03/2011 19:20

Judith isn't associated (in my mind at least) with a particular time period. It's just a nice name. It's not trendy, but everyone know how to spell and pronounce it.

It has a lot going for it.

cece · 03/03/2011 19:22

At long last it is good to see Jude for a girl. It is far too girly for a boy.

I think it is lovely. Judith with nn Jude. L
Lovely.

pinkhebe · 03/03/2011 19:24

I think it's lovely, If I was ever to have a girl I think I might nick it Grin

tabbyH · 03/03/2011 19:34

I might nick it too! Was Hey Jude a girl? I always thought it was anyway. I'm only old enough for take that to be singing it though :)

Notnowcato · 03/03/2011 19:39

Judith is a lovely name. And Jude would work well as nn. Jude as a 'given' name might cause confusion on forms etc as I think most people think of it as a boy's name. But does that matter?
