Can you call your baby Harriet if your close friend's new baby is called Harry? We have been absolutely set on the name for a girl from the get-go and for some weird reason this issue has only just occurred to me! Help!

Of course you can. No one has ownership of a name.

Yes, I can't see any problem there at all.

Firawla · 02/03/2011 09:09

yes you can, anyway Harry is very popular so they can hardly think they would be the only person with that name, so they mustn't be too bothered about it?

missorinoco · 02/03/2011 09:10

Yes.

DiggingDeep · 02/03/2011 09:13

I thought this was going to be twins Grin - which might be a tad odd....

But a friends baby Harry - absolutely fine.

flopsy1974 · 02/03/2011 09:15

Ofcourse you can. Harriet is a lovely name BTW

Kaekae · 02/03/2011 09:16

Of course you can and I would. Go for it if you really love the name.

Highlandgirl · 02/03/2011 09:38

kviddy · 02/03/2011 09:39

Phew. was worried these were going to be twins.

go for it!

Oh thank God! We are having issues with our boy's name (friends of friends keep using it) and thought we were so safe with Harriet. Then the Harry issue occurred to me and I felt like crying!

Go for it.

Seven months before I was born, friends of my parents had a son named Harry, but it didn't stop my parents naming me Harriet.

29 years later, they're all still friends, so it clearly didn't bother them!
