Too American?

I'm falling in love with the name Ethan but don't want people to think I'm trying to be something I'm not. Does it sound too American? I'm not due until July so plenty of time to decide but I don't want to rush a last-minute decision!

I don't think it is too American but it is quite popular.

SilkStalkings · 28/02/2011 18:54

Ah, who cares! If you love it, do it. I have a Kurt which many think of as quite American but he was named after our favourite author and that's what matters.

meditrina · 28/02/2011 18:57

I know a couple of primary school age Ethans in UK. I like the name, and don't think of it as American.

pointydog · 28/02/2011 19:01

I know a couple. It's gaining popularity so I don't think anyone would categorise it too much.

I dont think that it is too american, but it is very popular, which might be a consideration.

Grabaspoon · 28/02/2011 19:04

It's becoming quite popular all of a sudden know at least 4 pre-school Ethans and 3 school aged and there's within a local village.

I didn't think "American", I thought "fairly popular name that comes up on MN quite a lot"

givemeaclue · 01/03/2011 15:21

There are a couple of Ethans at nursery, didn't realise it was amrican thought it was of celtic origin. I like it (as long as you don't mind them having the same name as a few others at school - its quite popular)

MamaLazarou · 01/03/2011 15:24

I don't think it's too American but it does always remind me of Ethan Frome - the saddest story every written. Sad

MamaLazarou · 01/03/2011 15:24

EVER written!
