Right start that again....anyone like the name Belle as a name in its own right?

Annabelle, Isabelle, Clarabelle.....

Personally prefer Belle as a name in its own right.

i love the name Belle as either a name in its own right or as a nn. Unfortunatley though my niece is an Isabelle so I wont be getting to use it any time soon :-(

Personally I would use a full name and Belle as a nn just to give your DC an option in the future.

I love the name belle, sounds very french to me. Also love Bella, thats on my name list.

I prefer Bella to Belle

At a stretch, it could also be a nn for Bellatrix.

The "Disney" phase would be pretty short lived, and survivable.

I am not trying to be negative, but as the name means 'beautiful' and the meaning is quite well-known, what if the child turns out not particularly beautiful?

I'm sure she will always be beautiful to her family but you know what I mean --- it's a lot to live up to! I would have been wary of giving this name myself. And what if she goes to live in France? Isabelle etc would be fine, but just 'Belle' seems a bit blatant IYSWIM.

Not trying to annoy you, just a thought to bear in mind.

I quite like it on it's own and would go for a French middle name but check it with a real live French person first.
Belle Fleur is cute (saw your other thread) but Bellefleur is a novel by Joyce Carol Oates so I'd read that first.

Have you thought about nicknames for Belle in the playground? There is one obvious one that leaps to mind, depends if that bothers you.
