To go with Poppy and Oliver? What are your thoughts? Finding it really hard to come up with a girls name that "goes". Wink

You can't have a Ruby and a Poppy when they are both shades of red. IMO!

meditrina · 27/02/2011 16:06

I don't really like Ruby (the Cockney rhyming slang, I think).

Are you OK with the Forsyte Saga and HP associations for Fleur?

PepsiPopcorn · 27/02/2011 17:06

Fleur - Forsyte Saga, not keen I'm afraid

Ruby - lovely name, a bit much to have two "red" names though

How about Amber, Grace, Charlotte, Anna, Sophie, Louisa, Emma, Lucy, Georgia?

Busspuzzle · 27/02/2011 17:21

Fleur over ruby but not keen on either with poppy.

PepsiPopcorn · 27/02/2011 17:23

What Cockney rhyming slang?

meditrina · 27/02/2011 17:44

Ruby Murray .... curry

ItsJustAName · 27/02/2011 17:46

Fleur is a goregous name - Ruby always reminds me of an old lady. And it is a very 'now' name, it may become the Tracey of the decade, so my vote is Fleur, every time.

KAEKAE · 27/02/2011 18:46

Can't have Amber, Grace, Emma or Georgia! Names already taken within our family. Don't mind the colour connection, quite like it... I suppose.

If you don't mind the colour connection, then Ruby is a great choice :)

threefeethighandrising · 27/02/2011 23:44

I don't see anything wrong with the colour connection. I didn't think of it straight away anyway.

saffy85 · 28/02/2011 15:19

I prefer Ruby out of the 2. Don't see why you "can't" have Ruby due to the colour connection Hmm Infact it's quite a nice connection. And Fleur is also "connected" to Poppy anyway, due to the meaning...

agora1 · 28/02/2011 16:00

I like Ruby and again think the colour connection is quite nice.

Kaekae · 28/02/2011 17:35

Saffy85 this another reason I quite like Fleur.Wink

Too many Rubys around and it's a bit late to start a colour theme - what about poor Oliver?Smile

Fleur is much more exciting.

Rhubarbgarden · 01/03/2011 08:14

I wanted Fleur but dh said it was pretentious. Love it. Ruby is a bit boring now.

ZZZenAgain · 01/03/2011 08:28

not sure if Fleur and Poppy is a bit much on the flower theme. Some people like their dc to have names with some kind of theme though - all flower names or all beginning with the same letter etc. I did meet one family with a Lily, Poppy and Violet and wondered what they would do if they had a boy.

I didn't think Ruby - red, Poppy - red tbh. Seems seems to me that Ruby is a different type of name to Oliver which I think fits better with Fleur. Mind you also think of Poppy as being a different type of name to Oliver. I suppose what I'm trying to say in a garbled way is that Poppy and Oliver don't seem such a clear fit to me taht the third name would have to go IYSWIM

Ooopsadaisy · 01/03/2011 08:36

Just a warning for you -

We know a Fleur and all the lads call her "Fleeeuuuur" - like the sound you make when you throw up.

Nice.

dan1981 · 01/03/2011 08:47

Personally I'm liking the colour theme of Poppy and Ruby....

i'm sure your son won't mind as he's a boy so i'm sure he wouldn;t want to be in with the colour connection when he's older anyway...

and tbh...i didn't see the colour connection until it was pointed out so its not too obvious (like poppy and lily would be for flowers...)

ZZZenAgain · 01/03/2011 08:49

there is olive (green) in Oliver if we stretch it a bit

SilkStalkings · 01/03/2011 10:01

How about Lysette? (little lily)

BlackType · 01/03/2011 10:02

Love Fleur because of Fleur Forsyte. Don't like Ruby.

DaisyDaresYOU · 01/03/2011 12:28

I love Ruby much nicer than Fluer. It's popular for a reason but then i'm biased Smile

pilates · 03/03/2011 10:20

Another one for Ruby.

stiflersmom · 03/03/2011 10:21
