Is Stanley getting popular? I'm worried that it's the next Alfie :S

yes - think it probably is.

Our cat was a Stan... (was also my dad's MN name though!).

TerrorFirmer · 25/02/2011 13:19

loads of toddler Stans round my way

Meglet · 25/02/2011 13:21

yes, there's a few of them now.

privategodfrey · 25/02/2011 13:22

I blame Eminem :)

flopsy1974 · 25/02/2011 13:25

I don't know any - probably a regional thing though.

KAEKAE · 25/02/2011 15:42

Yes, I find it common I am not keen.

BarbieLovesKen · 25/02/2011 16:46

I hope not because its awful

reikizen · 25/02/2011 16:51

more than there should be. It's not very nice is it?

KenDoddsDadsDog · 25/02/2011 16:51

Yes I have heard it quite a lot recently. It's an old family name but I wouldn't use it now.

catinboots · 26/02/2011 19:33

yep - I know several

GwendolineMaryLacey · 26/02/2011 19:35

I don't know any but I absolutely love it :)

usualsuspect · 26/02/2011 19:37

I don't know any under 65

Guacamole · 26/02/2011 19:38

I think of it as a dog's name... Sorry. Having said that I know a rather gorgeous part Maori New Zealander called Stan and it suits him.

CupAndSaucer · 26/02/2011 19:39

I know 1
I think it's lovely!

tanmu82 · 26/02/2011 19:43

uurrrggghhhh

NinkyNonker · 26/02/2011 19:57

I know one.

twosofar · 26/02/2011 20:01

I have one who is almost 5 and don't know any others.

IMO names like Alfie, Archie and Ruby take off due to things like Eastenders, so doubt Stanley will get as popular until it there is an Eastenders version.

Our family dog was called Archie (in the 90's) and people looked at us like we were mad and thought it was a terribly posh 1920's/30's name. Now every second baby seems to be called Archie (the one's that aren't called Alfie that is)

ItsJustAName · 26/02/2011 21:05

Boy round the corner was called this. Not sure if he was boring and dull, or his name just made us think he was, but either way, he was not in with the in crowd (in other words us kids playing out on our skateboards late 70s early 80s).

BlackType · 26/02/2011 21:06

Dear oh dear. It was my grandad's name. He wasn't that nice.

CPtart · 26/02/2011 21:16

I know one. I hate it!

exoticfruits · 26/02/2011 21:17

I know several-I feel sorry for them!

PepsiPopcorn · 26/02/2011 21:26

It's one of the slightly "in fashion" names inspired by the older generation. Don't see it becoming the next Alfie though.

RetroMum1 · 26/02/2011 21:29

I love it and DH is adamant that if we have a boy we'll use it but it is becoming popular around here which has really put me off.

ItsJustAName · 26/02/2011 21:34

it's the name of the baby in Cougar Town, isn't it?
