Hi, I didn't know where to ask this question but thought that this was the best place.

Basically my son is 10 years old and is called Leonard but prefers to be called Leo (what we call him too).

When he started primary school we put Leonard down on his forms and he is known at school by teachers and friends as Leonard, even though I've told them he prefers to called Leo!

He starts Secondary school next year and I (and he) are wondering whether we can put Leo down on his forms in order to avoid him being called Leonard.

Can I do this?

PS we do not want to change his name as it's important family name to us.

Thanks!

So I would have to put Leonard on the forms? He won't be happy about that! oh well.

Surely most teachers would be happy for him to just say on the first day of registration "I prefer Leo". There are lots of Jonathans who prefer Jon, Roberts who are Rob, Olivers who are Oli, Elizabeths who are Liz. I'm a Nicola who hates Nicki/Nicky and quite often had to stop teachers inclined to shortening it on my behalf!

He's very shy, it's a big school. I'd rather try to sort the situation myself if I can.
