Worst spelling of perfectly ordinary names? Elyviya anyone?

I have met a Danyal, Daniol, Naiphthan, Caytie and an Alivia. Why do people consign their children to a life time of 'no, that's Daniel spelt...'? Any equally terrible ones out there?

Biker, I had the same thing!! The midwives came round and asked all the new Mum's what their babies were called. When I told them what we'd chosen, I got told it was lovely to hear a normal name for a change.

thingumybob · 24/02/2011 21:48

Jaycee and Cam'ron in my DC's class Hmm.

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 24/02/2011 21:48

I've got 3 normal names. I still have to spell them. Catherine with a C, Anne with an E, Gilmour MOUR! I then have to spell my house name, the name of my street and the name of the town! It takes AGES to fill out a form over the phone!

Blatherskite · 24/02/2011 21:55

You also have to specify Catherine with an i-n-e too I find else you get Cathryn.

We have to do surname and street too!

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 24/02/2011 22:16

Yes, and CathErine not CathArine! See. it doesnt even matter if you have a normal name!

supersewer · 24/02/2011 22:51

I know a Jorja and a Summa,
there is a local lad called "Nike" wondering if there is a sibling called ReebokGrin

What upsets me more is children with foreign names who parents feel they have to anglicise i.e. Kacper being taught to spell it CASPER because mum thought they wouldn't let him spell it the polish way at school. Sad

supersewer · 24/02/2011 23:02

ooh I forgot about Sharlott-Mae - poor child!!!

GothAnneGeddes · 25/02/2011 03:28

Bikermoll - there is link between socio-economic circumstances and premature birth.

Grockle · 25/02/2011 07:20

Ooo, I know of chakra & karma twin boys too. Must be the same ones? Surely there aren't two lots?

Not spelling but I know a very Catholic lady named pagan which always made me smile.

When i was pregnant with my DS1 i was scared his name would be common so wanted a different spelling so chose the French spelling and a different spelling of his middle name. But decided last minute not to be a chav and think about it. So instead of

Jak - Rylee

We gave him

Jack Riley Grin
