I am looking for feedback (hopefully positive)on the name kitty.
My nan is called Kathleen and we want to call baby kathllen on BC everything else to be known as Kitty. What do people think?full name to be Kitty Louisa/louise Buchanan.
Thanks

I'm thinking your obviously having your own doubts anyway which is why you've started this thread. I actually like the name but I don't think I would choose it myself. To many chances for name calling. But then again kids are can be cruel anyway so if they're going to pick on you they will find something.

Kathleen Louisa is lovely :)

Personally not keen on Kitty but it's fine as a nickname for a longer name.

I love it. It'd be on my shortlist for a girl, for sure!

pinkgirlythoughts · 21/02/2011 11:03

I adore Kitty, but don't think it really stands very well as a name on its own, so like you, I'd go for Kathleen/Katherine on BC. That way, if she grows up not liking it, she's always got another name to fall back on.
Apart from my sister, who instantly burst out laughing and said "everyone will call her titty," no-one I've mentioned the name to has ever said anything negative about it.

mrsravelstein · 21/02/2011 11:04

i love kitty, it's very cute, and could be shortened to kit for a cool teenager. (also ds2 has an imaginary best friend called kitty, so i have a special fondness for the name)

Sarsaparilllla · 21/02/2011 11:11

I like it, but go for the longer version on her birth certificate so she has the option of a longer version when she grows up

LetThereBeRock · 21/02/2011 16:48

I hate Kitty. It sounds like a stripper or burlesque dancer. Kathleen is fine though.

ValiumSandwich · 21/02/2011 17:02

I'd put kathleen louise/a on the bc.

Kitty isn't to my taste.

happycamel · 21/02/2011 18:29

Kathleen Louisa on the BC, as you say. Then you can try Kitty for a nn and see if it suits her. She can always change it if she doesn't like it and use her full name or Kath or Kate or Kathy or whatever.

My full name is similar and I use a nn based on it. My mum didn't like it to begin with but now it's just "me" iyswim.

Iwantscallops · 21/02/2011 20:21

I think it is a beautiful and timeless name. It was top of my list for a DD but I have 2 DS's.

Go for it!

NinkyNonker · 21/02/2011 20:25

I love it, DD was nearly a Kitty. Have it lined up for if we have another girl!

Wafflenose · 21/02/2011 20:40

I don't mind Kathleen or Kitty as a first name, but definitely prefer Louisa to Louise for a middle name. More unusual, and flows well.

Rhubarbgarden · 21/02/2011 20:57

Love it.

MonkeyChicken · 21/02/2011 21:04

Kitty is great and Kathleen is a nice proper name so if she hates Kitty she has loads of other options to choose from so she's not stuck with it.

pippylongstockings · 21/02/2011 21:17

I know a Kitty - it is her full name he doesn't have a longer version to fall back on. I think it is lovely.

plonkerr · 21/02/2011 21:26

Gorgeous!

Love Kathleen and Kitty is just adorable. I agree that Kit is great for a teenager/adult.

BlackType · 21/02/2011 21:29

I know several little Kittys, and I'd avoid it for that reason. It's very, very modish. But I don't see a problem with shortened names - my DD has a very long name on her BC, but she's universally (including on school register, doctor's surgery list etc) known by a shortened form.

KLou111 · 22/02/2011 14:58

I think it's lovely. My mum worked with a Kitty :)

CrystalStair · 22/02/2011 15:02

Hello?

cheesesarnie · 22/02/2011 15:05

ds2 has a friend called kitty.i love it.
and as a nn for kathleen its even better,if kitty doesnt suit her she can use fn or kate, kath, katie etc.

I havent come accross many tbh. The one I do know loves her name and is the only one in the school so, I dont think its that popular. Its a lovely old name like Nancy and Kitt is cool when shes older. I like the fact that it makes me think of a Victorian cheeky stripper or a burlesque girl in Soho as I have a gp with the same name so I think its flexible!!
