Another name regret!

Our baby boy is 2 weeks old and we have named him Louis. I do love his name but can't stop thinking about Milo.

It was always between Milo & Louis for him since we found out we were having a boy. We went for Louis as it as my husband liked it slightly more which swayed me.

Milo is much more unusual, I guess I do worry that Louis is too popular!

Maybe it's my hormones making me crazy?

Is Milo much nicer than Louis?? Should I push to change it?

mmmm tricky. have to say that i do prefer Milo, but it really is up to you and your dh. why don't you have a chat with him about it? your ds is still really tiny, so it wouldn't be that difficult to change it.

i also have a bit of a regret with dc3's name, but he's 18mths now and there would be snowballs in hell before dh would let me have the name i really wanted - Gabriel. i think you've got more of a chance.

Tillyscoutsmum · 20/02/2011 20:41

Personally prefer Louis and don't think its too popular. I haven't come across one. Milo is a little bit less classic imho and has Tweenie associations.

CrispyTheCrisp · 20/02/2011 20:42

Milo is a tweenie and an Australian milk drink.

Does that help? Grin

I watched Bounty Hunter with Jennifer Aniston the other week and that had a Milo in it.

I kept thinking it is a kid's name - it seemed odd on a grown man. To me it should have been Miles.

And I think it is also a Tweenie - I prefer Louis

Milo!!!! LOVE IT!

smother · 20/02/2011 20:49

Oh my goodness, Louis is so so soooo much nicer than Milo!! Honestly. I don't know what the statistics are but Milo sounds much more popular and very much has the feel of a 'now' faddy name... I've come across several, and I don't thnk it will stand the test of time. Louis, on the other hand, sounds fresh, lovely and a little cheeky - suitable for an adult and a child (unlike Milo). Please don't change his name!!!!

(P.s. very sorry to any parents of Milo's who may read this)

Louis is far nicer than Milo! You've picked a lovely name for your son, so relax! x

Inspirachion · 20/02/2011 21:41

2 baby Milos in my baby group and no Louis
Stick with it its fab

ValiumSandwich · 20/02/2011 21:42

It doesn't matter what I think obviously, but o names will date a child. Milo, Otto, Bruno, JaGo etc. All gorgeous, love them all, they were all on my list. But I think there will come a time when Milo sounds very, very 2010 ish

Louis seems to have a bit more history. Even if it becomes less fashionable it was a king's name.

Mimosas · 20/02/2011 22:04

Maybe Milo's not as unusual as I thought then?

To be honest I think my hormones are making me crazy, I'm seeking perfection all the time.

If I changed ot to Milo I would have to change his middle name too as it doesn't flow with Milo at all.

I need to forget about it and move on. thanks for the positive comments on his name you've made me feel much better.

I prefer louis x

Italiangreyhound · 21/02/2011 01:07

I much prefer Louis. It is lovely. Milo does make me think of the chocolate milk drink! Apologies to anyone who has a Milo, I am sure it is lovely too.

At the end of the day it is your choice but to be honest in time you will probably come to get used to the name (I think) and will think of him as the person he is with that name. So unless there is a really good reason to change it I would be strongly tempted to stick with it a bit longer and see how you feel.

I think you picked it for a reason, it is truly lovely and as someone said it has a history.

weaselbudge · 21/02/2011 20:27

Milo more popular here too!

CharlieBoo · 21/02/2011 22:04

Louis is lovely... Milo is a tweenie in my head.

moodymama · 21/02/2011 22:14

Much prefer Louis.

Underachieving · 22/02/2011 00:18

I'm agreeing with the majority here, Louis sounds like it could be a boy or a man but Milo will forever bring up images of Tweenies to me.

melrose · 22/02/2011 11:57

Milo is a tweenie! I know 2 people who thought of it for a 1st child, had a girl and (having been introduced to the world of cbeebies) immediately discounted it for a second child! Believe me when you are watching the mad purple faced thing jump around you will thank the lord you chose Louis!!

belgo · 22/02/2011 11:59

Louis is a gorgeous name. Historical and unusual. Keep it!

catinboots · 22/02/2011 13:58

love love love Louis

CameronCook · 22/02/2011 14:58

Well they're not on cbeebies any more I don't think but Milo will always be a Tweenie to me

flower38 · 22/02/2011 16:46

Louis is far nicer than milo

Februaryblues · 22/02/2011 17:13

I also love Louis.
