As you know from my last post, my favourite boys name as Noah. However I am now getting slightly concerned it may date as is a very now name.

So I have now come up with William. What do you all think? Would I be able to get away with not shortening it as hate nicknames?

Final question which goes better with Matilda? Noah or William?

I am expecting boy/girl twins in a few weeks.

I prefer William. Noah sounds a bit feminine to me. And yeah, I've heard of Noah from the bible, and nOah's ark and obviously I know it's a proper name with a million years of history! but it does seem a bit trendy compared to William.

I do like some bible names more than others though. Ethan and Naomi, or Lydia and Saul, or Reuben and Susannah or Jemima and Matthew

But some bible names do seem to be trendy first and bible second. And for me Noah is one of those.

I really like the name William. Only know adult ones and must admit all go by the shorter version 'Will'.

Rather unhelpfully, I think both Noah and William go beautifully with Matilda!

Good luck with your twins.

I have a William so I'm biased, but I really like it. Although, I think there might be a lot of Williams around because of the royal wedding. It didn't worry
me but it might make the name popular.

mrsravelstein · 20/02/2011 11:03

there are an awful lot of williams about at the moment - 3 of my friends had one last year...

I love the name William. It is far, far nicer than Noah and has loads of great nicknames (my personal fav is Bill).
I think William and Matilda sound very classic, but Noah and Matilda sound very trendy (which is unappealing to me)

I have a William so am probably biased, but think it goes better with Matilda.

Understand you want to avoid NNs, but not sure you can always have total control on that one, so only problem I can foresee is Tilly and Billy.... Hmm

William is a gorgeous classy and classic name.

Will is great for a teenager and man.

mumincognito · 20/02/2011 11:31

Lovely, you can't go wrong with William. It might get shortened to Will when he is older, but I like that too.

Plonker · 20/02/2011 11:40

Definitely William - great name!

I do think its one of those names that inevitably get shortened though (Will, Bill, Billy ...)

wfrances · 20/02/2011 11:49

i have a william, hes 7 and gets called wills and bills???

OliveMalay · 20/02/2011 12:32

I prefer William.

Just wondered what the chances are of them getting shortened to "Tilly and Willy" though.

flopsy1974 · 21/02/2011 12:32

I have a William - timeless and classic name. He is usually called William, now an again it gets shortened to Will.

LouMacca · 21/02/2011 13:36
