I'm expecting DD soon and am looking for a very girly name. Here's my shortlist, please let me know your favourite:

Isabella Lauren Jessica
Sophia Lily Jessica
Sophia Libby Jessica
Lucia Jessica

Thanks x

How would you pronounce Lucia?

smelltheroses · 19/02/2011 21:40

I like Isabella Lily as a combination

Maria2007loveshersleep · 19/02/2011 21:42

I prefer the two first options. I don't think Libby or Lucia go well with Jessica.

As to what you're actually going to call her, I love both Sophia & Isabella but not Lucia.

mmmitsdelicious · 19/02/2011 21:42

What about Isabella Lucia..

mathanxiety · 19/02/2011 21:48

I really dislike Jessica. It sounds really downmarket to me, and very 70s. I've never known one who wasn't a fluffy airhead as opposed to pretty.

Isabella Lauren (or Lauren Isabella) is very nice, and Sophia Lily (or Lily Sophia).

I would substitute Elizabeth for Jessica and Libby.

Isabella Lauren Elizabeth/ Isabella Elizabeth Lauren
Sophia Lily Elizabeth/ Sophia Elizabeth Lily
Sophia Elizabeth
Lucia Elizabeth

mathanxiety · 19/02/2011 21:48

Isabella Lily sounds like a question though...

shmoz · 19/02/2011 21:49

Prefer Isabella and Sophia (these were my name choices had my ds been a dd, albeit in the Polish forms of Izabela and Zofia).

As for 2nd names, Lily and Lucia are nice, but depends on what goes best with your surname

cece · 19/02/2011 21:50

Like Isabella, Sophia or Lily

Don't like Jessica, Lucia or Libby

I agree about substituting Elisabeth

mumofeach · 19/02/2011 21:57

Thank you
Galdem - would pronounce Lucia Lu-see-a

mathanxity - thanks for your suggestions. The other options I had were:

Isabella Lauren May
Isabella Lucia May
Sophia Madeleine Lily
Sophia Lauren May

Do you think these sound better?

We already have an Elizabeth in the family so that wouldn't be an option.

'I've never known one who wasn't a fluffy airhead as opposed to pretty.'

I feel I should say a word in defence of the Jessicas of the world: I know two quite formidable teenage ones (clever, determined, articulate - head girl material) and an 11 year-old one who is also bright and generally delightful, with the merest hint of fluffiness.

All your names are a bit rich in syllables for my plain taste, but I like Isabella Lucia best of all the suggestions.

mathanxiety · 19/02/2011 23:13

Apologies for the fluffy airhead remark Pterosaur. Ran away with myself.

I would avoid Sophia Lauren May because of the actress Sophia Loren, but Sophia Madeleine Lily sounds lovely, as do the other two names -- of those two I think Isabella Lucia May has the nicer ring to it.

For me, it would come down to choosing between Sophia Madeleine Lily and Isabella Lucia May. (And I would be hoping for twins).

Thanks mathanxiety really appreciate your help

Isabella Lauren is the nicest in my opinion. I don't think Lily goes well with Isabella...

kitkat1000 · 20/02/2011 08:23

My daughter is in reception and every second child is called Isabella or Sophia so i'd be more likely to go for Lucia/ Lily or Madeleine.

kizzibear · 20/02/2011 10:58

i have never seen or heard lucia pronounced that way? I thought it was italian pronounced lu-chee-a

OliveMalay · 20/02/2011 11:13

Isabella Lauren Jessica - end of Isabella doesn't flow well with start of Lauren, too much "la" together
Sophia Lily Jessica - nice, very pretty
Sophia Libby Jessica - dislike Libby, sorry
Lucia Jessica - would you prounounce it Lu-CHEE-a or Lucy-a? Not sure it "flows" well either way
Isabella Lauren May as above, too much "la" at end of Isabella into the start of Lauren
Isabella Lucia May - nice but too much "l" la/lu
Sophia Madeleine Lily - pretty
Sophia Lauren May - like this best :)

JiltedJohnsJulie · 20/02/2011 14:13

Lucia is probably my favourite. All of the names are pretty and pretty popular too, although that's obviously not a worry.

weimy · 20/02/2011 14:16

Isabella Lucia, esp if you go for the Italian way of saying it.

In my (personal) opinion one middle name is enough and I think its nice to "honour" a relative that you have a close bond to / is no longer with you.

Not sure if that throws up any interesting middle names.

DaffadownDilly · 20/02/2011 15:17

The only Jessica I know has always been the cleverest/best at everything person I know.

Lucia is lovely, the way you pronounce it, not the Italian way.

weimy · 20/02/2011 17:41

I know a jessica she is the most bland unintelligent person I have ever come across, and she chews gum as though she is a cow on the cud.

sparkle12mar08 · 20/02/2011 18:25

Well if it's girly you're after then Libby it has to be. But frankly I think it's an awful name to use as a proper name and not short for something. Of all the rest so far I like Isabella Lauren Elizabeth very very much - pretty without being twee, but it essentially uses the same name twice and that's a problem. So my choice woild be Isabella Lauren - beautiful, classy and classic.
