Struggling to think of a name that's going to suit my little princess....she is half indian half white. Daddy is quite fair but then i am quite tanned as have spanish in my family! So she's going to be a mix!
Wanted an indian name that wasnt too traditional but then wasn't too british? We kinda have our hearts set on Savannah-Rose as Rose is my middle name but my other halfs brother is called Savan and if we were to ever shorten her name it would be Sav - the same as his!!!

HELP!!

xx

So you are sure it's a girl then...ok how about the suggestions of Priya and Amita are both lovely or how about Roshni, Anya or Neena?

Not too keen on Savannah sorry especially as her Uncle is Savan, he would think you had named her after him and it would be too similar for my liking.

loobylu3 · 20/02/2011 20:52

My DC are 3/4 Asian and 1/4 Caucasian and are obviously mixed race with light brown skin, large brown eyes, brown hair. I am half and half and look Caucasian. I have some pics on my profile which are set to private but I don't mind you having a peek OP if you are interested!

DD1 is Maia- we preferred the non Indian spelling. DD2 has a v English name and DS's name is European so a real mixture.
The problem that we had when contemplating Indian names was that a lot of them will be mis pronounced in this country. We both love Amrita for example and Indira is beautiful too but I fear that both would be butchered!

I'm afraid I don't like Savannah- Rose nor Savannah at all. I think Rani/ Anjali/ Anjana/ Priya/ Roshni/ Reena/ Nina/ Seeta/ Sita/ Maia/ Maya would be lovely and are easy to pn.

I love Angali and Jaya.

LynetteScavo · 20/02/2011 20:55

Anjali!

megglevache · 20/02/2011 21:19

My dd has Indira as her middle name. I adore it and someones wish I'd called her it.

My children have Hispanic/afro/Indian heritage.

MazzzaG · 20/02/2011 22:45

Jasmina or yasmina or maybe christelle

Savannah? Wrong continent there, you only find savannahs in East Africa (and there's a river called it in America).

I have some Indian Vogues right in front of me (needed for work, just got back from a business trip there). Here are some sample names:

Aishwarya
Archana
Anushka
Anisha
Rishna
Priya
Priyanka
Sangeeta
Nila
Amrita
Hemali
Piya
Karina
Sarita
Renuka
Rekha

My DD is called Nina, everyone in India said "oh an Indian name!" (we are white British). I really like Sunita & Sangeeta & Sumira.

For boys I love Ravi, if you are looking for boys at all...

Invisiblesoul · 20/02/2011 23:36

My dh is half Indian half White. He's called Anand (means happiness). Zia?!

thelittlestkiwi · 20/02/2011 23:38

I like Anita, Nadia, Namha (sp?), Aashni (means smile).

My DD is 1/4 Indian and 3/4 European and looks European apart from her eyes which have a lovely shape. I was convinced she would have black hair but it is light brown and going blonde in the sun. She is fair skinned but tans in an instant. Everyone tells me she is beautiful.

Yes, she is my PFB ;-)

Love Anjali but not exactly sure how it would be pronounced. Apparently it means Gift; offering. I also like the name Anjuli but according to the good old Internet the girl name Anjuli is also used as a boy name. Apparently Anjuli means offering with both hands and is one of the characters in the story The Far Pavillions. It is a form of the Indian Anjali.

Not sure exactly how the two names would be pronounced differently.

Congratulations.

i know a gorgeous Kam

solo · 21/02/2011 01:33

My Dd was going to be called Rani. She is 1/4 East Indian, 1/4 West Indian and half white English. We thought she'd be a lovely coffee colour, but came out with very white skin and blue eyes. As her hair grew, she was blond. She has darker hair now, but still very white skinned and blue eyes. Rani would not suit her at all. Pictures on profile.

You maybe need to have some completely different names at the ready.

I know a few Indian and half Indian children so thought I would share the girls' names:

Anina, Ella, Rohini (LOVE this one!)

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/02/2011 18:08

We have a friend who is called Tessima, which I think is beautiful. She usually gets called Tess which is lovely too.

Mum2Pea · 22/02/2011 10:58

I am indian and OH is White. So we had decided that since our children would have an English surname, we wanted indian first names to reflect their mixed heritage.

We have really struggled too ........ but names that we like/liked are
Roshni
Diya
Ankita
Maya
Anjali (can be shortened to Anju?)
Payal
Aarti
Saanvi

loobylu3 · 22/02/2011 12:55

SavannahRose- I have added you to my 'friends' so you can have a peek at the pics if you like!

FooffyShmoofffer · 22/02/2011 13:32

Our frends have chosen Jasmine as their possible DD name for Baby half indian/half white.
