do you think alexander greet sounds too much like alexander the great... i am sorting out a back up name for my little bub due in 4 days just in case the girl they predicted doesnt transpire!

i love the name but i think our surname might rule it out.

any suggestions if yu think its a bad move?

I think it's a lovely name, and wouldn't worry about a Great association.

i love the name and it goes well with benjamin, my ds name...

have been umming and aahing or a while but its quite masculine and sturdy!! which i like in a boys name. also need a long name with our surname which makes it tricky.

thanks for your post! much appreciated

I think it's a lovely name, and chances are he will often get called Alex, which wouldn't have that association anyway.

thanks, i like the nn alex as well, i dont even know if kids study alex the great anyway now so might get away with it!!

Alexander is a lovely name, works from childhood through to adulthood, it's perfectSmile ...sounds lovely teamed with edward - Alexander Edward x

QuestionNumber · 10/02/2011 22:21

Personally yes I do think it sounds like Alexander the Great (especially with a northern accent).

wilkos · 10/02/2011 22:23

love the name but not with greet as a surname, sorry

optimisticmumma · 10/02/2011 22:41

Aw - I have an Alexander who is now 18 Shock - love the name but I too think he would be Alexander the Great. Does it matter though?? Good luck with the baby!!

nipplesofthenorth · 10/02/2011 22:44

I have an Alexander and a Benjamin! Alex does get called Alex the Great but just by us - and he bloomin' loves it! (he's 10)

HighHeidYin · 10/02/2011 23:38

Love it. Was my grandfather's name Smile

mandy1978 · 11/02/2011 11:46

ooh thanks or the honest opinions, i dont know if it matters too much or not. am just hesitant to saddle my child with something i know could sound silly, accidentally is fine but to do it knowing it could sound odd is a different matter!!!

maybe taking nipples (?? haha) take and turning it into a cool positive name could be an idea.. great name choices nipples!!

i do love the name though gah blasted surnames!!!

will have to rethink.. i love edward, daniel and matthew as well.

but alexander is my second fave name o benjamin.

hmm will continue to consider but thanks for your thoughts

I like it but it's very very popular, there are loads at the toddler group I go to. Only think that would worry me as well is if he gets 'Al'.

Ruthie32 · 11/02/2011 21:14

I like it, it was my grandpa's name and everyone called him Alec
his surname was Graveling so kind of similar to Great (?) and that never occurred to be before now

muminthemiddle · 11/02/2011 21:57

I think it sounds good.
