Magnus, Jasper, Felix or Hugo?

Only 2 weeks to go and we are having sleepless nights over our boys names. Would a Magnus be laughed at, it seems to get a very mixed response? Are Jasper and Felix too trendy now so will date? Is Hugo a better balance of unusual but classic?

All lovely apart from Felix (which is too closely associated to cat food in my brain).

In what way would Magnus be laughable? Does it have any rude shortenings..Hmm?

I like Hugo the best, jasper and felix remind me of animals.

Magnus mmmmm not bad but my friends dad is called magnus and just reminds me of him

Also depends where you are - in Scotland Magnus might be the only one that isn't laughed at.

I have a Jasper, and only know of one other child. I know a Magnus (called Maggie for short), a Felix (odd child, but has odd parents) and a Hugo, although that is actually my cat. Grin

Jasper, as a name, has been around for donkey's years, and I've only ever had positive comments on his name. I'm sure that when he's a teen, he'll get called Jazz at some point, but that's fine.

Magnus is my fave; Jasper was the name of a spaniel my sis's childminder had when she was a kid , see also Jasper Carrott

Love Jasper and Felix.

Hugo is a bit more "staid posh". Not keen on Magnus.

I know a Magnus age 10 and nobody seems to bat an eyelid!

I quite like it, also like Hugo.

I think Magnus is a lovely name, children will find faults with any name (it's what they do), Magnus is a strong name that works from childhood through to adulthood, go for itSmile

Felix and Jasper are becoming increasingly popular and neither are particularly nice, Hugo is lovely. x

jasper was on my short list for ds2, as was caspar, but xh (h at the time) said no for both.
Its a lovely name and fairly classic, not too unusual.

I still don't see what is teaseworthy about Magnus... I can see William being teased with Willy or Benedict as Bendy Dick, but Magnus....Confused.

Magnus is my favourite! Reminds me of Mastermind (Magnus Magnusson) so to me it sounds like a clever kid.

Met a guy the other day called Magnus Carter and thought how distinguished it sounded
If you love a name, go for it
My son is called Solomon and I love it!
Got funny looks to start with but not anymore!

What about Casper, Quentin or Augustus (Gus)?

I have a jasper and it really suits him. Love Magnus too. Felix is very popular ATM IMO and I have met loads of them

I love Magnus and would choose it this time round but DD2's name begins with M and I'm a bit funny about not having the same initial.

Agree that Hugo is a bit try-hard.

Jasper is a bit celeb-baby.

Felix is the new naughty boys' name (or perhaps that's just at our school).

Magnus is great - I'd go for that.

I like Magnus the best. Jasper and Felix is nice too. No keen on Hugo as I don't like the first 'h' sound of it.

I have a Quentin so obviously love that too Smile.

I think of Magnus Magnusson. Can't think of anyone else called Magnus. For some reason also reminds me of Magnum ice cream Confused
