Scottish Girls Names - suggestions please

I have only just found out I'm pg again but have been obsessing thinking occasionally about names.

Not sure about the gender of the baby, but we'd like to give it a Scottish name for a middle name. We're set for a mn if it's a boy, but I've no idea for a girl.

Can you offer any suggestions?

I adore the name Isla, it's just a shame that it's become so damn popular! You could always spell it IslaySmile

Morven
Rowan
Kirsty

pointylug · 08/02/2011 18:22

Some odd names on Melina's list. Are they really Scottish?

I love Rowan. Rhymes with cow-an in Scotland, always.

pointylug · 08/02/2011 18:22

And I love Morven

fishski · 08/02/2011 19:17

MelinaM - surely "Jaime" is Spanish??? ;-)

pointylug · 08/02/2011 19:35

I would bet that at least ten of them aren't Scottish.

stressedHEmum · 08/02/2011 19:36

Marsaili
Mara
Eileis
Eillidh

Blair and Cameron are officially unisex names but are only ever used for boys, here. Drew is similar (short for Andrew.) Tavia is short for Octavia, surely, and I thought that Vika was a place in Norway.

Fish, I think perhaps Melina meant Jamie, which is another name only used for boys.

MelinaM · 08/02/2011 23:45

They are all from a Scottish baby name book, I've also just had a peek on a few baby name websites and a lot of them are present there too!
I agree some of them are rather odd, and I didn't think of them as Scottish either, but well, apparently they areSmile x

JaquesTouatte · 09/02/2011 00:55

Senga is a classic.

Caitlin is a good old Gaelic name that no-one else has mentioned, and so must be a bit less common than most.

MelinaM · 09/02/2011 01:32

According to the weird and wonderful book, Tavia/Tavi is the female form of Tavish/Tavis and has the meaning 'Twin', Jaime is the female spelling of the male Jamie, and Vika is of latin origin but apparently is considered ScottishSmile x

jimper · 09/02/2011 09:29

I posted Fia on a different thread and everyone HATED it! I was totally gutted as I love it! I still might use it (just have to work on DH!)
